Magic

Though the categorisation of magic varies across Ebdypha, there are eight primary recognised orders of magic, distinguished by the original source of power and therefore each Element. Each of these orders has schools within, which are differentiated through elemental damage, effects, materials, specific power sources, casting methods, or themes. Due to the chaotic history and the passing of most Eah, a lot of magic overlaps themes and elements with other orders. For example, Halus warriors handle acidic aplaima which is categorised as blight but are not associated with Cuuhuina at all, and the Monic Order utilises sound to tap into asterite but have no association with Mirvahadh.

Trutination

Trutination magic comes from Hrememun and primarily involves the ruin element. It includes spells to do with onyxfire, lightning, frenzy, moonlight, salt, reflections, and death.

Levisation

Levisation magic comes from Mirvahadh and primarily involves the rending element. It includes spells to do with wind, sound, thunderstone, iron, and deafness.

Enthymiation

Enthymation magic comes from Yihyaphem and primarily involves the frost element. It includes spells to do with crystals, cold and ice, silver, sleep, and illusions.

Imperation

Imperation magic comes from Fallasar and primarily involves the divine element. It includes spells to do with gold, amber, divinity, control, Monumite, and blindness.

Excidation

Excidation magic comes from Ashurnuq and primarily involves the fire element. It includes spells to do with copper, brimstone, domination, Tar, and fire.

Profectation

Profectation magic comes from Cuuhuina and primarily involves the blight element. It includes spells to do with creation, mercury, poison, growth and healing, animals, Alchemy, and Ephemora.

Vitation

Vitation magic comes from Ebdahat and primarily involves the primal element. It includes spells to do with Visite, Asterite, lead, silence, charming, and Aplaima.

Nihilation

Nihilation magic is though to come from Heocalan or Astrium and involves the umbral element. It includes spells to do with terror, psychic ability, oblivion, and pure darkness.

On top of this, there are several ways to acquire magic in Ebdypha. The four standard ways are by blood, pact, study, or gift. These are all explained below.

    • Genumancy: The capacity for magic innately comes from the genumancer's bloodline or birthright but may need additional steps to be awoken, such as reaching adolescence, performing a ritual, experiencing trauma, or attaining some guidance and mentoring. Genumantic skill may be lost if not practiced often, but known genumancies are unlikely to be completely lost.
    • Adjuration: The capacity for magic is granted by a higher being to the adjurer through a pact or contract with specific conditions. It may be in exchange for the admiration, reverence, or adulation of the being, or it may be in exchange for a physical or non-physical part of the caster. Adjuratory skill can be revoked if the higher being deems the pact broken or otherwise void, in which case the adjurer would lose access to all adjuratories.
    • Cogimancy: The capacity for magic is learned by the cogimancer after rigorous and proven study of the magic source, and often requires a physical tool in order to cast the magic directly from its source. Cogimantic magic may not be possible if the user is without their magic tool, without which they would not have access to their known cogimancies.
    • Profusury: The capacity for magic is gifted to the profuser with no conditions or requirements. This is often the case with those who draw power from Asterite in order to cast magic. Profusural skill be lessen over time, but not to the same degree as ancestral magic. Profusuries are unlikely to be forgotten.
