Tar

Tar is a thick, black liquid extracted from the lands around the capital of the Tarshir Empire. It is similar but not the same as pitch or bitumen. It is believed to be a remnant of Ashurnuq's death, and is a highly profitable export of the empire. Its extraction and trade is overseen by the Cults of Torohnuq.
Tar has many mundane uses, such as glue, waterproofing, as mortar, and for embalming. It also has medicinal uses, and is often mixed with herbs and applied to wounds. High priests use tar as an ingredient in their potions, which are said to heal the mighty but kill the weak. High priests also use tar for divination purposes. They pour it into clay bowls for scrying, or burn it as incense to invoke greater powers. Upon being burned, it emits a distinct vivid crimson light.
