The Lower Wylds

Parched by the mountains to the West, much of the western Lower Wylds remains in a rain shadow. Much of the northern area bordering the Long Stride escarpment remains a dry prairie with a deep watertable. Stretching over 400 miles south, this expanse of land is host to a number of small villages and fledgling cities.   Like its Ochita namesake, the Lower Wylds was not always so wild. The gnomes that occupy the north once lived and may have originated from these arid plains. As imperial expansion crossed the Catseye, Gyre was conquered/renamed and the not-yet technologically advanced gnomes were pushed north into the desert and finally escaped into the rolling hills near Du'chan. The new elven conquerors revived Heaven's Landing as 'Otway', a strategic mining city and sought to tame the now fallowed gnomish lands. Their attempts at settling these lands were highly unsuccessful as the fauna and anti-elven marauders were relentless.   Today, the Lower Wylds have begun to be reoccupied by gnomes, tiefling, and humans. Otway, now the largest city in the Lower Wylds, faces a power vacuum. It's long reigning dicator Dostun Otway was ousted by a coalition of anti-elven forces which now fight for power. This turmoil has been lovingly called 'Otway's Crucible'. Ashenfort was reconquered by the gnomes now ran by the corporate Gyre Trading Company. The area is primed for commerce, bounty, and technological revolution. Before that can be realized, the many threats bordering and within the sub-continent must be addressed.
