The Catseye

The Catseye was the nomenclature given to the ocean by the Greys sometime in the distant past. Elves during their reign sometimes referred to it as 'the Narrow" while the gnomes lovingly call it the "Salty Tub." Its expanse remains the major mode of commerce between the races of Cabochon despite frequent attacks by sea elf vessels.

Geography

The Catseye is a moderately alkaline body of water acting as the major geographic barrier to the races of Cabochon. Numerous islands lay scattered across its surface including the large Median Island located near its center. Nearly all water features in Cabochon empty directly into its vast surface which encompasses over one third the world. Transpiration of this ocean's waters help form the Iridic Gyre which funnels storms inland and keeps areas such as the Great Marsh and the Fosse Forest lush.

Fauna & Flora

One of the notable inhabitants of the Catseye are the notorious Sea Elves. Fastening their floating domains to archipelagos and river deltas, sea elves actively scavenge flotsam from nearby ports (or that they generate themselves) leaving much of the Catseye free of debris. A number of marine creatures are said to inhabit its depths including a number of mythical monsters often detailed in navigator's maps.
