Chalk Doldrum
Due to the surrounding topography, the northeastern Catseye is known for its converging wind streams creating a large area of dead air. This expanse of windless water is so flat that old elven explorers claim the wake of their ships carve an endless line in the still water like chalk to chalkboard.
This desolate sea harbors many ghost ships marooned by storms and choked by lifeless waters. Legends say that even the Sea Elves seldom tread here as the currents are weak and offer no aquatic sustenance. The few that have braved these doldrums are rewarded with frigid sheets of thin ice in the Glass Gulf. Survivors of these expeditions speak of the Cymophane Isles, a phantom archipelago said to appear to only righteous crews in need of refuge.
With the lack of ports or habitable islands, the Chalk Doldrums of the northeast Catseye are rarely traveled by any vessel. Paired with the Lost Steppe, the Berylfolk remain mostly unknown in the Paradise Rift.
