Bresk Point
Bresk Point is a city that lies on the southern coast of the island of Chelok. It is known for its many smelting and tanning factors, and is considered quite a valuable investment by most of the Chellian Merchant Houses. It is also a very difficult place to live, as it is covered in soot, and known for its rather terrible smell.
Demographics
Government
Bresk Point is governed like most major municipalities of Chel, by a town council and a Podesta. There are three merchant house Factories in Bresk Point, Chel Trading League, Jukano Gulf Consortium, and the Penzance Mercantile Cooperative. Each of the houses has a Syndic on the town council.
In addition to the representatives from the merchant houses are councilors from the town's Temple of Photruna, and the representative of the Admiralty sent by the Navarch. The podesta is elected by the town council to make judicial rulings and keep the peace between the rival merchant houses.
In reality the Town Council and Podesta have little practical power, as most de facto power is held by the merchant houses. The merchant houses have their own police forces, which carry out their own forms of justice on their own factors
Industry & Trade
Bresk is located at the mouth of the Larkin River. The river is used to transport cattle and other grazing animals from the Efyl plains. When their bargages arrive in Bresk the animals are slaughtered and their parts are processed for shipping. The butchers and tanneries of Bresk are what give the city its characteristic foul stench.
In addition to the animal products, Bresk Point also imports raw ore from the nearby coastal city of Lylan Port to the east. Lylan Port does not have the infrastructure to process the ore it gets from the Tarn Highlands and so must ship its products to the manufactures at Bresk Point.
Guilds and Factions
Three merchant houses maintain Factories in Bresk Point. Each of these factories act as hubs of trade for their factors and enforce each merchant houses contracts in the region. They are also heavily fortified so that they cannot threaten each others dominion in the region.
The merchant houses are constantly competing for control of various commercial operations. This has lead to a sense of general unease, with company agents making deals, buying out rival business concerns, or sabotaging another merchant houses production line.
