Makar Lowlands

The Makar Lowlands are a floodplain located in the northeastern quarter of the island of Chelok. It is known for its large plantations and its exports, mainly sugar and rice.

Geography

This region makes up the north eastern corner of the island of Chelok. It is dominated by the Makar River, which divides into many small streams and creeks bifurcate from the mother river, and many of them rejoin the river, or instead flow into small ponds, lakes, or directly into the sea. The terrain is best described as an Alluvial plain, with much of its sediment flowing from the Tarn Highlands and Frask Lake.   Many people of the region utilize the rivers to transport trade goods to the city of Kera where it can be sold to merchant house Factories for export.

Fauna & Flora

Native to this region are many species of water loving plants. Most that can be cultivated are, especially rice and sugarcanem which are cultivated on large plantations for export to Kingdom of Erikadia and Kingdom of Tiveldech.   Many of the small streams of this region are home to the small schools of fish. Wandering the lush islands and small peninsulas are a species of swamp fox, called the Makar Fox. Lizardfolk used to dominate the lowlands, but campaigns carried out by the Chelakens have made them all but extinct, with many of them fleeing to the far wilder island of Chelaki.

Natural Resources

Many large plantations owned by Chelaken aristocrats divide the lowlands. These plantations take advantage of the fertile soil of the plain by growing large amounts of rice, sugar cane, and even indigo. While some of this is consumed in Chel, most is exported to markets on the continent of Notria to the west.
