Alimmar
Demographics
As the capital of the Empire of Embrith, Alimmar sees the greatest disparity among its citizens economically, racially, and profession wise. Nearly a fourth of the capital's denizens are slaves or servants to the upper-class that reside in the city as well. Spread throughout the outer reaches of the capital's walls are the slums and lower-class areas that house the majority of the population. However, near the center of the city and around the castle, many of the highborn and influential individuals of the Empire reside.
Government
The capital of the Embrith falls directly under the jurisdiction of the Emperor himself. However, to alleviate the burden of managing both the capital and the domain a council of advisers and confidants aid the Emperor in governance of both.
Defences
As the capital of the Empire of Embrith and the home to the Emperor, the defensive emplacements and constructions throughout the city are massive and imposing. Thirty foot high stone walls surround the capital on all sides, the wall even crosses the Teilen River and runs along the entire bayside of the capital. Along with set intervals of the walls and along each side of the various gates and strategic locations, bastions rise another ten feet above the walls and atop them are emplaced ballistae.
Within the outer wall, the city itself is sectioned into five areas, the Lower Ring Ward, Seastone Port, Highlamp District, Graybluff Farthing, and the Imperial Ward. The districts are each protected by a set of walls or natural defenses from the Teilen River or cliffs of Blackfen Bay. The most defensive area, naturally, is the palace and surrounding grounds found deep within the city.
Sporadically place throughout the capital is many barracks, each with a large tower that rises above the buildings. These act as guard posts as well as bell towers used to alert the city and citizens of threats. Guard patrols originate from each of these barracks, as well as the gatehouses along the walls. The city guard amount to two thousand standing troops, though this is incomparable to the military which has a standing force of over six thousand troops who are stationed within the capital and are not considered in the city's population.
Infrastructure
Supporting the citizens of the capital massive construction projects have gone underway in the city. At Seastone Port, massive docks capable of housing large triple deck vessels line the shoreline of Blackfen Bay within the city walls as well as two large shipyards near the river mouth. Almost all of the docks have massive wooden cranes and pulley systems that unload large amounts of cargo from the docked vessels. Beneath the docks lie the drains to the capitals labyrinth of sewers that run throughout the city. The palace and its grounds, however maintain their own sewer system that runs into the Teilen River.
All streets within the city walls are paved and maintained regularly, though outside the walls the road is only maintained down the main thorough fair leaving all others to the mercy of time. Several bridges cross the Teilen River on the western part of the city connecting the divided parts of the capital. Throughout the city, large plazas where people can sell their wares or relax near the fountains are constructed to impose a grandeur design. These plazas are offset by gardens and parks that are built and maintained in the upper-end districts of the capital.
Architecture
The style and designs of the city vary vastly depending on the district you are in, especially when there is a significant difference in the wealth between residents. Most of the buildings, however, are densely packed with very little room in the alleys between them. All buildings that offer services are adorned with a hanging sign that signifies the shop, while any official or governmental buildings are given a wide berth between the buildings and are often two or more stories tall. Peppered throughout the city are towers that rise into the skyline, each serving the purpose of bell towers and lookout points for the guards.
Geography
Settle along the western shores of Blackfen Bay, Alimmar has a wide variety of geography in its area. The Kippen Woods make up the southern portion of the city and out to the cliffs overlooking the bay. Dividing the capital itself is the Teilen River which flows into the bay from the mountain range to the west. The rest of the surrounding area around Alimmar is rolling grasslands and small hills that make up the valley. Even within the city, small hills are built upon giving Alimmar the visual of looking like the waves of Blackfen Bay.
Natural Resources
A plethora of fish and sea life lives beneath the surface of Blackfen Bay, however, this is the last natural resource that is in the area around Alimmar. Most of the land has been turned into farmlands and pastures or sectioned off as training fields and natural reservations for the natural wildlife in the area.
