Highlamp District
Demographics
Highlamp District is populated primarily by the middle and upper-class citizens of Alimmar. Almost all prominent merchants, guild masters, noblemen, and various other professions and influential people find a comfortable residence within the district. A significant difference between the rest of the city is that Highlamp has nearly no other race other than humans, save for the few elves and dwarves that reside here as well.
Government
Governance of the capital falls under the Emperor and his advisers. However, the districts of Alimmar each have a local nobleman that oversees them.
Defences
The most defensive district other than the Imperial Ward, Highlamp is defended by its own set of high stone walls that separate the district from the others. Having only four gates that connect to the lower districts, two connecting Highlamp with Lower Ring Ward, one that connects to Seastone Port, and the final one at the end of the bridge that crosses the Teilen River and into Graybluff Farthing. Similar to the outer walls, large bastions with ballistae are built at intervals along the wall. Within the district, several barracks are scattered throughout as well as multiple towers like in the other districts.
Infrastructure
The wealth of the denizens of Highlamp directly relates to the number of amenities that are provided in the district. Similar to the rest of the capital, sewers run underneath the paved roadways, which are well maintained to ensure the function and comfortability of the citizens. Several large bathhouses can be found within the district offering places of relaxation and rejuvenation for the denizens. A few higher-end establishments are constructed along the main roadway as a place for traveling individuals who can afford the stay. The most prominent buildings in Highlamp are the various temples to the gods and the massive guild house in the main central plaza. All of Highlamp is lit during the evenings by lamplight along the roadways throughout the district, each is set alight and doused each and every day.
Architecture
As one of the more prominent areas in Alimmar, the district buildings are designed with a more grandiose feel to them with spacious streets and a moderate density. Many plazas and parks are constructed throughout the district where many denizens can be found strolling throughout the day. Most of the business buildings within Highlamp are found near the plazas and the main road that connects straight to the Imperial Ward.
