Vin
Beginnings
Vin hails from Shinryu, a proud nation with a history of discipline, wisdom, and peace.
His family was part of an esteemed line of herbalists and alchemists, well-respected for their deep knowledge of natural sciences and history as compassionate doctors.
Vin’s changeling heritage was often a curiosity in their small community, but they grew up loved, respected, and accepted—despite their ability to shift between identities.
Forboding signs
However, everything changed when Ironspire, their direct neighbor to the East, began to unravel.
Ironspire had long been a militaristic nation with a ruthless ruling class.
After a bloody civil war, the nation had fractured.
They fell to the uprisings of the Dreadspire Radicals.
In the wake of the civil war, Dreadspire used this virus to subjugate the remaining rebellious factions within their borders.
This virus had always been a lingering terror, but it had been isolated in dead cities out at sea and all nations were meticulous in keeping it that way.
Now, it was being used as a weapon against the masses.
It was an unprecedented move that shook the world, and Shinryu, along with neighboring Mechanis, watched in horror as the Necrotics rampaged across Dreadspire's borders, decimating anything in their path.
Escape
Vin’s village would be one of the first to suffer at the hands of the Necrotics once these undead forces were unleashed from Dreadspire against their external enemies.
Vin’s family was killed in the attack.
Their home was burned to the ground, and their loved ones were either slain or reanimated as grotesque creatures.
Vin barely escaped.
Path to Vengence
Vin would go on to join the Shinryus' military and would be recruited into their espionage unit due to his nature as a changling.
He was a natural spy, literally, and quickly absorbed their teachings
Initially tasked with eliminating rogue Necrotic-alchemists and silencing those who sought to further the use of these creatures.
However, it wouldn't be long before Vin was recruited into joint operations with Mechanis in missions designed to take the fight directly into Dreadspires' heartland.
It was a dangerous gambit: Vin, working in the shadows, became an asset to infiltrate enemy lines, assassinate key military leaders, and extract critical intelligence about the Necrotics and Dreadspire’s ongoing efforts to weaponize them more efficiently.
Vin would eventually meet Torgil and Tiamat, they would become a terrifying trio and achieve highly audacious missions.
Avenged?
Eventually, the war would come to a close.
While the public would be informed that the leaders were executed, Vin would know the truth.
Two of them were most likely still alive, the brains behind the tragedy.
He would be conflicted; did he truly want to keep fighting?
He had killed incredible numbers of people and helped eradicate these undead forces.
The weight of these lives taken would be immense, and now that the fighting was over and his mind was clearer, the thoughts of the life he could have lived that his family had lived were breaking him down.
"...was it enough?"
During this crisis of conviction, he would travel the world, eventually gaining a penchant for sneaking into lectures and libraries as they would remind him of home.
During these travels, he would be confronted with the ruins created by Dreadspires' actions and once he arrived at Torgils' home city of Lóthiriel he would get his answer.
"...no, they must pay for this."
Recommitment to Vengeance
Vin would initially return to Shinryu and talk with his old contacts.
As far as Shinryu there was no further need to hunt down Dreadspire Radicals.
They were finished and any that remain are already being hunted down by Ironspire and Mechanis.
Unsatisfied with this attitude by Shinryu, Vin would choose to travel to Ironspire in hopes to meet Torgil.
He wouldn't be able to meet him at that time and would instead meet Tiamat.
After catching up and discussing his intentions to truly complete his mission for vengeance, Tiamat would decide to travel with him.
"Sounds exciting..."
Tiamat having an even more extensive contact list than Vin would be able to quickly figure out Torgils' location and they would travel to Ironspire.
Upon meeting Torgil, he would agree to allow them to join his mercenary group.
