Lóthiriel

Symbol of Unity

Lóthiriel once stood as a shining beacon of unity between humankind and elves, a city whose streets echoed with the harmony of two cultures coexisting in mutual respect and shared purpose. Situated at the crossroads of the human kingdom of Mechanis and the elven domains of the Oralthis, Lóthiriel was not just a city but a symbol of the promise of peace in a world torn by the conflicts of the past.

Founded over four centuries ago, Lóthiriel's foundation was laid in the belief that a city where magic and science could intertwine might set a new precedent for cooperation between the disparate peoples of the world. The elven inhabitants, gifted in the arcane arts, provided the wisdom of ages, while the humans, particularly those from the Ancient Humans lineage, contributed their profound understanding of technology and biological sciences.

Together, they built a city of wonder.

The Plague Unleashed

It was in Year 1933, during a period of escalating tensions between Mechanis and Dreadspire, that the Necrosis Virus once again showed its' destructive power.

It would be believed that a biological strike, carefully concealed, was launched in the heart of Lóthiriel — a devastating move that, once it began to spread, could not be contained.

In a matter of days, the city’s once-bustling marketplaces and scholarly halls were transformed into chaotic war zones, as infected bodies, now twisted into Necrotics, began to rise from the dead and wreak havoc upon the survivors. The virus spread rapidly, moving through the city in waves, infecting both human and elven populations alike. Lóthiriel, with its dense population and interconnected streets, became a perfect breeding ground for the virus.

The infected were nearly impossible to stop. Their decay was swift, and those who fell were reanimated as soulless creatures, driven only by the need to spread the infection. Worse still, the Necrotics could only be stopped through fire, a method too slow to halt the initial onslaught. The Necrotics swarmed, attacking both the living and the dead.

As the virus spread, the elven population — deeply attuned to the arcane and magical forces — could not offer the protection they had once boasted. The virus was biological, not magical, and therefore beyond their reach. The Ancient Humans, immune to the virus, fought valiantly to contain the infection, but the city’s combined forces were not enough...

By the end fewer than a thousand survivors would be left, and the city would be leveled in the efforts to eradicate the undead by the forces of The Sentinels of the Silent Grave over the next few years.

The Aftermath: A World Shaken

The fall of Lóthiriel was the catalyst for the outbreak of the Great War that followed. As word of the city’s fall spread, rumors began circulating that the Necrosis Virus had been deliberately released by Dreadspire, the old enemy of Mechanis. Tensions between the two nations, already high due to political rivalries, escalated into full-scale conflict.
The city’s collapse threw the world into chaos.

Lóthiriel’s destruction marked the start of a new war.

Dreadspire, with its cold, calculating nature, saw the fall of Lóthiriel as a triumph.

Mechanis, as an unforgivable act of aggression.

Today, Lóthiriel lies in ruins, its ashes scattered across the land.

A silent tomb to the dead and another grim reminder of the power of the Necrosis Virus.
