Financial Event
Despite being split up, the unanimous thought for most of the party was to immediately resupply and search for interesting shops while exploring this new town.
Elinor decided to stay at the inn.
Lilly, sensing a shift in Elinor, decided to talk with her.
The combat on the ship overwhelmed her, she was an assassin and thief, she could run away, she was powerless to change anything, she wasn't ready...
She decided that she needed to improve her skills and learn more.
Seeing the look in her stubborn eyes, Lilly relented.
"We'll leave you to think..."
River and Lilly had an easy time finding various shops as most of them were nearby their inn; and they visited the following shops.
Each of these shops had some items of interest, and while they didn't have enough money for most things at the time, they would soon meet up at the bank for their rewards and compensation.
They bought a variety of healing potions, identified some of their items taken from the Crimson Bandits, and River requested that the Arrow Catching Shield be held until later that day.
Torgil, Timat, and Vin would all search for similar shops, each having varying degrees of success, but would not find anything of enough interest in those shops to buy except some healing potions.
During their shopping spree, Torgil and Vin, would stumble upon a post advertising a tournament that was only five day away.
The prize was Bracers Of Defence, which they both immediately coveted.
After identifying their items they discovered that they gained the following.
They received a stern warning not to reveal that they had enchanted jewelry since it was incredibly valuable and tended to attract attention easily.
River displayed an interest in the Wand of Identify that the shopkeeper used for her work.
As noon neared, Torgil realized a problem; he scheduled his meeting with Ezio at the same time as the bank meeting.
This caused a bit of chaos since he started sprinting through the streets, scaring some of the locals
Finally, noon arrived with all parties present.
Everyone moved to meet with Cindroth the Vice President of this bank and business partner of Liam.
The interesting financial problem that they had was swiftly solved with each party receiving or providing compensation as was required.
Each of the Bloody Misfits would receive 1,086 GP at the end of it, and most of them would decide to save most of their new funds at this bank.
Vin would express an interest in the investing options at this bank, however that would be put off for another time.
Now that the accounts were settled and they had a couple hours to kill before meeting with Ezio.
The party discussed their new loot and the distribution of it.
Most of the discussion would revolve around the new periapt before a new issue presented itself.
While River was showing the new spell scrolls, the Charged Knife spell would disappear upon coming in contact with Lilly.
She would be bombarded with spellcasting knowledge, including a wizard's basic principles to learn new spells.
At the end of the discussions the items would be distributed like this.
As the discussions ended, they arrived at the holding cell for their captive.
While receiving their captive, River and Torgil would discuss torture methods.
A guard overhearing their conversation would ask if they have a license for torture.
Baffled by this, they would forget to even lie about it or their situation; however, the guard wouldn't give them any trouble after seeing who they were picking up as he understood the crimes that their captive committed.
"...it doesn't matter he's going to be executed by torture for his crimes anyway.
Might even get off easy in your hands."
- Indifferent Gaurd
They left for Ezio after Torgil paid the holding fee.
Upon arriving, the party was quickly shown to Ezio.
Ezio, delighted to see them, immediately disappeared from view as he teleported behind Tiamat and started to beat the shit out of him.
Shocked, the rest of the party did nothing but watch this happen.
Tiamat decided to talk instead of fighting back. However, he would keep getting cut off between punches.
Eventually, Ezio would ask why he wasn't fighting back.
"...I'm not foolish enough to fight someone when I'm outmatched to this degree."
- Tiamat
"...So you're not an impulsive fool, good."
- Ezio
With that, business could begin.
They would initially confuse Ezio with his request since he is a harbormaster, not a licensed torturer.
"I don't have a license for that... and I build ships.
Why would you come to me for this?"
- Ezio
The party would refer to the earlier events at the harbor, which he would deflect as a moment of impulsive rage.
Then, the party would try to plead to his desire to protect his people, which he would deflect as not his duty since that is what the navy is for.
Finally, they would try to poke his soft spot for his ships; he would refuse again since repairing vessels is good for business.
However, that wouldn't fool that party, and they would eventually get him to acquiesce.
Before they began, the party would be warned that they could ask three questions and that the spell he used could kill their captive.
Undeterred the party debate on the important questions.
Ezio getting tired of their debate and having another meeting would start the spell process.
He swiftly grabbed the captive's neck and cast his spell.
"Where is your base?"
The captive would desperately resist this question, and he would begin to pour blood out of his facial orifices while screaming in agony.
He sputtered.
"...In the mountain north of the capital, near the river, in a ruin."
Ezio demanded the next question from the shocked Misfits.
"What are the base's defenses?"
The captive would show an even more extreme reaction to this question, vomiting blood as the head reeled back as if possessed.
He would describe a force of forty to fifty people at a time, most capable of archery, a hill giant, and our leader capable of illusion magic.
"Who is your leader?"
The captive released one more gut-retching scream as he crumpled over in his chair, and the light left his eyes.
"MY RUG!!!"
- Ezio as the spell effects end.
"FUCK!!"
- Ezio
Ezio was pissed about the rug, and immediately wanted the Misfits to pay for the damages.
Tiamat took issue with this since this was his spell and he should've known the effects before casting it.
Ezio smacked him for his lip and complained that the spell usually turns the person to ash before explaining that such bloody effects are rare.
River and Torgil, intrigued by the spell and feeling a certain lack with their spell collection, inquired about a location to learn more.
Specifically the torture spell and maybe a spell to speak with the dead.
"...You can speak with dead people?"
- Ezio
River quickly explained that it was a kind of Necromancer spell.
Enlightened, Ezio quickly gives them directions to the Mechanis Magic Archive.
He informs the Misfits that they won't be able to find Necromancer spells or his spell there and that he isn't willing to teach his spell.
However, they could find most other spells they may need there.
Assuming they had a contact that could get them past the front door of course.
Torgil smirked.
Still having daylight the Misfits visited the Archive.
With Torgils' assistance, River and Lilly were granted limited access to the Archive.
River and Lilly were received by a young mage named Roland.
He requested to know how capable they were before directing River to a deeper area of the Archive with a small warning about the person she would meet.
He then leaves with Lilly to a more beginner friendly area with Dragonborn tomes of magic.
River arrives at a huge space with incredibly large shelves stuffed with scrolls and tomes.
Despite her awe of the environment she found herself in she easily notices a Magic Missle making it way to her.
As if by instinct, she casts her Shield spell and assumes a combat stance.
"Finally, another War Mage."
Walking around a corner, a mage with a bright smile introduces herself as Laura.
River and Laura begin talking, quickly hitting it off despite the greeting just moments prior.
"So what spells are you here to acquire?"
- Laura
River requested
Laura would snap her fingers with each spell that was named.
Each spell would fly to her hand from the depths of the archive.
"Wow, we got a big spender here, hope you can afford them."
- Laura
River also inquired about the Speak with Dead spell.
"You can speak with dead people!? Cool!"
- Laura
They really didn't have that spell here.
Once business was complete, Laura asked if River would like hang out which River agreed to.
Laura then asked if River would like to learn another spell, one of her unique spells called Synthasia.
"Some guy named Wayland convinced me that I should do this if I really want to get out of this library sooner."
- Laura
Once Lilly and Roland arrived, he asked what kind of spell she was interested in.
"...Do you have any cool spells?"
- Lilly
"Do you mean a spell that casts ice magic?"
- Roland
...
"Ah, cool, interesting, amazing, or wonderful.
I like it.
I think all magic is "cool" myself, but I get what
you mean."
- Roland
Roland snaps his finger soon after.
Then he snaps them a few more times before going beet red.
"Damnit... Laura"
- Roland
Lilly stays silent while Roland moves to find her spells.
Roland soon returns with a couple of spells tomes written in Dragonborn.
As Lilly receives the tomes, her eyes flash with electricity as the magic knowledge pours into her mind.
"What the fuck...
Shit, I forgot Dragonborns could do that.
Ahh, that's not fair!"
- Roland
Lilly consoles the Roland the indignant.
"It's alright.
It's not your fault you were born as a Dragonborn, and I have to learn magic the hard way."
- Roland
Roland quickly recovers himself and informs Lilly that she'll still have to pay for the use of the magic tomes.
With the newly acquired knowledge, the team heads back to the inn to plan their next steps.
As they pass through the crowd, Tiamat feels a kind of paper being placed in his hands.
He calmly opens it and reads.
"Crimson Eyes are searching for you."
- J (James)
"Shit."
- Tiamat
