Laki (a.k.a. The Just One, The Lawgiver, Prince of Peace, The Great Redeemer)

One of the younger gods, Laki is the deity of justice, law, peace, and redemption. He is a firm believer that all should be held accountable for their actions, but he is also a believer in second chances.

Holidays

Law Giving Celebration; 9th of Paun―This holiday is celebrated by most people it commemorates Laki’s giving of the code that was the basis for the Laws of Iahmesu. It is a solemn celebration where people reflect on the law and its importance to the people.
Redeemer Day; 30th of Epip―Another solemn holiday where it is customary for people to seek to make up for their errors and shortcomings of the previous year. Many also make resolutions to try to improve their lives or their relations.
Peacekeeper Day; 14th of Papyr―A day for setting aside feuds and conflict. Most wars are put on hold for the winter until spring. The mercenary companies of the Frontier Lands celebrate this day by going out and partying and spending their seasonal bonuses.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

His goal is to bring freedom, peace and order to all beings. He believes that freedom tempered with order is necessary for the greater good, and opposes those who would enslave or subjugate others.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

As a deity when Laki manifests physically he can choose to be in any condition he likes. He usually chooses to manifest in prime physical condition. Though on rare occasions he will manifest as an old man possessed of the wisdom of the ages. Though in that form he appears to be weak and decrepit, he is actually surprisingly spry.

Body Features

In his usual manifestation he stands six-four with an athletic build. His body bears no marks save for a single scar on his chest, usually concealed beneath his armor. When he manifests as an old man, he is shorter only five-eleven and stooped. Wrinkled all over but still unmarked save for the scar on his chest.

Facial Features

In both his manifestations he has dark blue eyes, with a piercing gaze. In his youthful manifestation he is clean shaven with a prominent nose and a strong jaw. In has aged form he has a short white goatee and an even more prominent nose.

Identifying Characteristics

In both his manifestations he has a large crescent-shaped scar on his chest. The scar is on he sternum and is a reminder of the time his aunt Ukkonen betrayed him.

Apparel & Accessories

In his youthful manifestatiomn he generally appears in silver plate armor trimmed with gold, wearing a winged helmet, and a bright blue cape trimmed in crimson. He carries a large morningstar also of silver and gold. When he manifests as an old man, he eschews the armor and dresses in blue-gray robes trimmed in red. Instead of a Morningstar he carries a large scroll written with the his code in letters of gold.

Personal history

Laki is the youngest child of Vaalea and Mudutu, and one of the youngest of the deities. Born well after the godswar he didn’t have to take part or take sides. However, he has been a firm supporter of his grandfather Utu, and a devout opponent of Asmodeus. He was trained as a warrior by his aunt Rohkea, and while he excelled at combat, he did not thrill in it as his aunt did. Instead, he preferred to find peaceful solutions to problems, preferring diplomacy to force of arms.

As a youth he negotiated a short-lived treaty between Rhokea and Ukkonen. The treaty was sound and only ended when Ukkonen broke it. However, despite the betrayal he continued to trust her, though he was always careful to verify or have a backup plan. While he believes in second chances, he is not a fool.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Laki is said to have handed down the code which became the basis for the laws of Iahmesu, which in turn forms the basis for the laws of most kingdoms in the Old Kingdoms, New Kingdoms and Frontier Lands, It is rumored that his negotiating skills prevented a second godswar when he brokered a peace between Utu and Asmodeus.

Intellectual Characteristics

Laki is said to be highly intelligent, but more importantly he is possessed of great wisdom. Some think he is slow of mind because he prefers to take his time and come up with the best answer. This is not to say he cannot think fast when he needs to, he just likes to think things through.

Morality & Philosophy

Laki believes in order first of all. He holds that order is necessary to preserve what is good. He also holds freedom to be very important believing that each individual has the right to choose his or her own destiny. After order and freedom, he holds justice to be of paramount importance. To him it is important that others receive the punishment they deserve for wrongdoings, and the law must be fair to all. However, he holds that justice must be tempered with mercy and believes all beings should be treated with compassion, even if they are transgressors. Finally he believes in the importance of honor claiming the true measure of a person is her honor, how she responds and acts, whether in the midst of war or in everyday matters.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Laki is motivated by the need to preserve order. However, unlike Asmodeus he believes that order should be mixed with freedom, that order is necessary to preserve freedom. He also believes strongly in redemption, that just because someone has failed to uphold the standards of law and good that they should not be cast away, but rather given a second chance. Finally, he strives to promote peace, by believing that all good should be trained for war.

Likes & Dislikes

Laki loves to see people who have fallen to be brought back into the fold. He likes to see people use their freedom to work for good, and not evil. He dislikes petty tyrants of all stripes who would deny people their freedoms. Finally, he hates slavery and opposes it at every turn.

Virtues & Personality perks

He prefers to try to solve things through peaceful means, through diplomacy rather than force of arms. He claims that force of arms as anything but a last resort is a tool of tyrants. He holds that the highest virtues can be summed up as don’t hurt people and don’t take their stuff.

Laki is an extremist in pursuit of freedom, and if he has any other flaws it is his willingness to give people second chances regardless of their past history.

Contacts & Relations

Laki is a friend of his father, Mudutu, as he keeps the codex of law. However, he believes that Mudutu is a little too lenient in his application of law. He gets along well with his brother Emku and is close friends with his other brother Kello. He is on good terms with Bahamut. He is close friends with his aunt Rohkea and often supports her. He gets along with his cousin Voimakas though he feels he is too quick to resort to force. He is friendly terms with his sister Arammu, his cousin Narum, and his aunt Sinnis. He dislikes his cousin Sanoma’s flippant nature and propensity for larceny. Along with Kello and his mother Vaalea he is a staunch opponent of his aunt Ukkonen. He is a staunch foe of Asbu and Demogorgon.

Family Ties

Laki is the youngest son of Mudutu and Vaalea, and is a sibling of Emku, Arammu, and Kello. He is grandson to Utu and Eresu, and nehew to Rohkea, Ukkonen, and Sinnis. He is a cousin of Voimakas, Sanoma, Osa, Narum and Kalbu.

Social Aptitude

Laki could be charismatic except he is so dogmatic that he sometimes comes across as unpleasant. He is very confident in himself but not to the point of being egotistical. He is well versed in etiquette and well mannered, always polite to people, and very diplomatic.
