In the Frontier lands, as well as the New and Old kingdoms, and even amongst the northern barbarian people, the deities of Arda are very real with their presence felt through the works of their clerics and adepts. The major deities are worshipped in all the listed lands to one extent or another. Some are more popular in one region and some more popular in another. While they can act through their many agents, deities are limited in their ability to intervene directly in the world. Why this is, is the subject some conjecture amongst scholars. The two most popular theories are that the deities restrict themselves through various treaties and agreements to prevent war between competing deities from destroying Arda, and that some greater power restricts their ability to intervene.
