Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Emku usually manifests as a slightly chubby man with olive skin, and brown eyes and hair. He is mostly bald with a single lock of hair at the crown of his head. He is usually wearing a blue skirt trimmed with silver with silver bands on his wrists and ankles.

Body Features

Emku’s olive skin is smooth and hairless save for his chin, eyebrows and the crown of his head. He is not muscular appearing as a scholar rather than a warrior. Indeed he appears to be slightly flabby, and soft.

Facial Features

Emku has a soft face with brown eyes and eyebrows, and a goatee braided into twin strands. He has a prominent nose and a wide mouth. He usually appears stern yet welcoming.

Apparel & Accessories

He usually wears just a flowing blue skirt trimmed with silver, along with silver bands on his wrists and ankles. He wears a silver circlet on his head, and a silver gorget that covers his chest shoulders and upper back. Other than that, he goes bare including his feet. He almost always appears holding a scroll or other symbol of knowledge.

Personal history

Emku is the son of Vaalea and Mudutu and the grandson of Utu and Eresu. According to legend he was born clutching a scroll in his hand. As a youth he immersed himself in his studies, ignoring other things. When the Godswar came he sided with no one, choosing to stay out of it. However, behind the backs of the other gods he taught the fledgling mortal races, giving them the secret of fire and teaching them other secrets. This angered his father Mudutu and the two of them had a great quarrel. This distracted Mudutu from the Godswar allowing Asmodeus the opening to launch his great attack on Utu, which resulted in the death of Io. Mudutu and Emku later reconciled when Mudutu realized the secrets Emku gave to the mortal races fostered the very freedom Mudutu was striving for.

Since the Godswar Emku has spent his time fostering learning amongst the mortal races.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Emku is the god who taught the mortal races the secret of fire, amongst other things. It’s said he shared many secrets of the other gods with the mortal races, lifting them up from savagery to civilization.

Intellectual Characteristics

Emku is extremely smart when it comes to knowing and recalling facts, less so when it comes to dealing with others. It is said if it is knowable that Emku knows it. However, Emku is the first to say there is always more to be known. He makes it his goal to know everything that is knowable, and he can recall facts with extreme ease. He is less adept at using facts in particular when it comes to dealing with people.

Morality & Philosophy

Emku isn’t concerned with the difference between good and evil and is fond of pointing out that knowledge is neither good nor evil. He does however believe in personal order and has a personal code that directs his actions. Paramount is his desire to stay uninvolved with the petty squabbles of the other gods. In addition, he wishes to see knowledge and learning spread to all. He believes that any who stand in the way of the spread of knowledge should be opposed. He is opposed to war in most cases because it slows and even reverses the spread of knowledge. He does acknowledge that there is a time and place not only for violence, but for war, he just prefers to exhaust other less destructive avenues first.

Emku’s goal is twofold, to know all that is knowable, and to see knowledge spread to all sapient beings.

He is very good at recalling facts no matter how obscure. He is not so good when it comes to dealing with people often missing or misreading social cues.

He loves to learn new knowledge, the more obscure the netter. He likes to teach and is happy expounding to receptive minds. He dislikes violence, preferring to use nonviolent means to his ends. He hats disorder, and nothing makes him more uncomfortable then to be surrounded by things in disarray.

Emku knows a great deal and can recall anything that he’s learned at the drop of a hat. He is good at using facts and can often connect to seemingly unrelated facts to arrive at startling but correct conclusions.

Vices & Personality flaws

He is not very good at dealing with other being, often missing or misinterpreting social cues. Of all the gods he is the one most likely to stick his foot in his mouth, though he’s generally a decent and person.

Contacts & Relations

He is on very good terms with Elmúlás and Mudutu who share his love of knowledge, and the three often work together. He’s on good terms with Azu, Dayyanum, and Kauppa. He gets along civilly with both Bahamut and Asmodeus. He gets along with his mother Vaalea and grandfather Utu, as well as Laki. He’s on god terms with Rohkea. He dislikes Sanoma, and Osa, and finds Ukkonen distasteful. He hates Demogorgon and actively opposes him and Asbu.

In his home of Perjir he is served by a inevitables, particularly aarbiters and rokyamuts. He also has several unique servants.

• Muallem—the first teacher, Muallem was the first to pass on knowledge to the next generation.
• Kirjaston—Manages the great library that is Perjir, keeping track of all the many books and scrolls in its endless halls.
• Ordhal—Is the recorder of history. He manages a small army of celestial scribes who record history as it passes.

Family Ties

Emku is the grandchild of Utu and Eresu. He is the child of Mudutu and Vaalea. He is the brother of Arammu.

Social Aptitude

Emku is not a very sociable individual, not that he dislikes others just that he is socially awkward. Those who get past his off-putting mannerism find him to be a pleasant and knowledgeable individual.
