Personal history

Sometime, not long after the godswar Arammu had a brief dalliance with a mortal male. The name of this mortal has been lost to time, but he had a lasting impact. Shortly after breaking off her affair, Arammu discovered that she was with child. Arammu gave birth in secret and left the child who she named Voimakas in the care of a mortal couple who were unable to have children of their own. She visited every month when Kuu was new. Once his foster mother left him unattended while she gathered some herbs from her garden for a meal. A panther slunk into the cottage and would have killed the child, but Voimakas in a feat of divine strength snapped the panther’s neck killing it.

As a youth Voimakas sometimes had difficulty controlling his great strength which made him somewhat unpopular with the other inhabitants of Terman, his village. When he reached the age of majority, Arammu , who continued to visit him, took him to Aklonitos to train him. Under Aklonitos’s tutelage his strength increased, but so did his control until he became a skilled athlete and warrior. When Aklonitos felt he was ready, he took Voimakas back to his home village which had come under the control of a despot, named Kawed, who ruled by strength of arms. On the 19th of Parmouth Voimakas challenged Kawed to single combat, without weapons. Laughing Kawed accepted and the two began grappling. The two fought for half a day before Voimakas caught him in a hold and snapped his back. Once ostracized by the villagers Voimakas was now a hero to the people.

While he enjoyed his newfound acceptance, Voimakas didn’t linger. He travelled the lands looking for people to help. He soon picked up a companion, Taavi, who joined him on his journeys, assisting him where he could. The two travelled, righting wrongs and liberating oppressed people. When there was no one to rescue, he took delight in open challenges to wrestle or duel. He seldom lost either, but when he did he always warmly congratulated the victor. After performing a number of great deeds his mother, Arammu petitioned her grandfather Utu allow Voimakas to join the ranks of the gods. Utu initially refused, but when Arammu persisted, citing Voimkas’s record Utu agreed provided that Voimakas could complete six tasks. The first was to capture the Tuulikki boar, a great half-fiend dire boar that was terrorizing the town of Tuulikki. The second was to build stables for queen Maarikawho had been granted a herd of immortal cattle by the goddess Eresu. The third was to exterminate the Ovokki rats, a huge swarm of rats that had overrun the city of Ovokki. His fourth task was to capture a pack of cerberi, vicious three headed dog-like fiends from the underworld. For his fifth task he was tasked to slay the Milja bear, a vicious creature whose hide was impervious to weapons and whose claws where razor sharp. The bear had been terrorizing the village of Milja for some time. His sixth and final task was to capture the Olavi goat, a giant goat who was terrorizing the island of Olavi. Upon completing these tasks Utu welcomed him into the fold of the gods.

Elevated to the ranks of the gods, Voimakas began undertaking bigger challenges. Rohkea took him under her wing and found that he had a talent for war. Of course, he retained his jovial nature, and habit of challenging worthy opponents to athletic contests.

Education

Voimakas was educated by Rohkea’s cyclops servant Aklonitos who in addition to teaching him to control his great strength made sure he had a first-class education. Consequently, Voimakas is well versed in most academic subjects, though one wouldn’t know it from his demeanor and behavior.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Most of Voimakas’s major accomplishments he did as a mortal. However, he’s accomplished a few noteworthy things since his elevation to godhood. Most notably was his wrestling match with Asbu. Asbu had claimed a mortal land as his own, Voimakas challenged his claim and the result was a wrestling match refereed by Metsäst that lasted six days. Voimakas won and the mortal realm was freed, Asbu however took revenge by burying it in a great sandstorm.

Failures & Embarrassments

As jovial as he is Voimakas is also somewhat capricious prone to impulsive acts. He has been known to take wagers on his ability to accomplish certain tasks. While he can usually comes out on top he has been known to lose on occasion. Most notably he made a bet with Sanoma that he lost. The bet was that he could swim across the Genan Sea in just six days. Unfortunately, a storm came up that caused Voimakas to get lost and end up back where he started.

Intellectual Characteristics

Voimakas is impulsive, quick to anger, but even quicker to forget his anger. His tendency to act first and think later has given many the impression that he’s a bit of a dimwit. However, his brash nature hides a keen intellect that he shows all too rarely. When he takes the time to think he can be quite astute. This often surprises opponents who think he’s all brawn and no brains.

Morality & Philosophy

He is good and believes that most beings are inherently good, though he is wise enough to know not everyone will accept a chance at redemption. He gives everyone the benefit of the doubt at first and believes in second (but not third) chances. He is honorable and charitable often using his great strength to aid those in need, and expects the same of those who choose to follow him.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

As a mortal Voimakas sought to use his prodigious strength to aid the less fortunate. Now as a god he cannot aid mortals directly instead he seeks to inspire other mortals to use their strengths to aid others. His greatest opponent as a deity is the evil god Azag, and the two have had numerous battles, both directly and indirectly.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

As the god of competition, he is quite good at all sorts of athletic competitions, both one on one and in teams. He also has a good grounding in strategy and tactics from his great aunt Rohkea, and while he doesn’t revel in battle, he recognizes the need for war and is quite competent as a general. Finally for all his ability he is a good loser, always warmly congratulating any who can best him in a fair contest. If he has a fault, it’s his impulsiveness a tendency to smite first and ask questions later. He is also somewhat brash and prone to accepting wagers without thinking things through.

Likes & Dislikes

Voimakas loves competition, and even when not competing directly enjoys watching others compete. He likes travelling and assisting the downtrodden, and now that he cannot interfere with the mortal world directly settles for inspiring others to do likewise. He dislikes cheating and cheaters and believes that any contest should be as fair as possible, though he recognizes that like himself, some are gifted with greater abilities. He hates bullies of all sorts, a position that often puts him at odds with Asbu and Azag.

Virtues & Personality perks

His greatest ability is his great strength and overall athletic ability, but even greater is his willingness, even desire to use his great gifts to aid the downtrodden. He has a soft spot for outcastes having once been an outcast himself. He is kind and charitable and always has time for a tale of woe.

Vices & Personality flaws

Voimakas is brash and impulsive. While intelligent and educated he doesn’t always stop to think, which means he can often be easily tricked, though once he finds out his wrath is as great as his good nature. He is quick to accept a challenge or a wager, again not always thinking things through.

He is naturally on good terms with his mother Arammu. He is a good friend of Narum and the two often have adventures together. He is a staunch ally of Kello and a devoted servant of Utu.
