South Pelican
South Pelican is a small, fishing village on the Isen River on the road that connects Hamia to the north and Iselman to the south.
It derives its name from the large pelican colony that stretchs either side of the village. In recent years the number of pelicans have drasticly reduced as a new threat from the south has been eating them.
There is a small ship building industry in the village which mainly focuses on small vessels.
The village is also known for a spicy creamed chowder of smoked fish and root vegetables. It was created by local chef, Shaldor Gurnard. He is a notoriously cranky man who refuses to the share the recipe, including its secret ingredient with anyone, including his own family.
Another well known figure in the town is Artinista, the Jewelerwho createds intricately crafted jewelry. She fashioning delicate masterpieces from the beaks of the village's iconic pelicans. She is concerned that she is loosing her livelihood.
Those that visit the docks of South Pelican are likely to run into Kengoder Bruce, a gumpy fisherman who refuses to believe in the dissappearances of the pelicans.
Plot Hook
Recently strange, zombified pelicans have started appearing in the town. The reality behind the dissappearing pelicans and their zombified return is that a sunken boat in the midst of the Isen river, to the south of the town, is cursed with necrotic magic. Within the hull of the sunken vessel is the sarcophagus of a mummy from the deserts to the south west. Fish are feeding on the cursed outer bindings that keep the mummy immobile, these fish are in turn being consumed by the pelicans. The zombiefied pelicans are now attacking other birds, attempting to eat them. For story ideas, a visiting wizard, who will not tell the whole story, is keen to hire adventurers to recover the mummy. Poop Strike: -1 to hit. 1d4 necrotic damage. On a attack roll of 19 or 20, the poop strike lands in the victim's mouth, causing double damage. It also creates a noxious cloud in the 5ft square in which it lands. Those that pass through the cloud must succeed a DC12 Con save or is blinded. The victim may re-roll the saving throw at the end of each of its turns.
