Midway Fareesh
As the dust of the road floats behind you, the small town of Midway Farish appears on the horizon. The sounds of merchant traffic and smell of beasts of burden carry to your senses. And on the right times of day, the fragrance of mint tea and pastries, inviting travellers to rest and and enjoy a good meal, wafts through the dry air.
Midway Fareesh is a hot and arid village in the region of Hamia. It serves as a traveller's rest stop between Hamia and the interior of the nation of Aratai. In addition to its large caravanserai, the village also has a clay pit and associated kilns. The clay pots that are made in Midway Fareesh are exported all over Aratai. Although on the far edges of the region, its large clay production accounts for up to 60% of the region's raw clay as well as a large portion of clay pots, cookware and cups.
Midway's geographical position allows for convenient rest and resupply for those traversing the trade route. Its location has fostered the development of a vibrant commercial environment, with a colourful marketplace and trading post catering to the needs of travelers and locals alike.
On the outskirts of the village is the large caravanserai. It can accomodate many caravans with ease and has a large kitchen attached which supplies travelers with basic, hot meals. The caravanserai gives cool shade as well as selter from the relentless dry winds of the plains.
Dromos is a tall lanky tiefling. He is the often overworked yet compassionate head clerk of the caravanserai. He maintains several pots of teas and coffees in his office.
In Midway, there resides a flamboyant merchant owner named Aurelia, known for her extravagant attire and charismatic personality. She is accompanied by her wife, Celeste, a poised and astute businesswoman, whose keen eye for fashion complements Aurelia's flamboyant style. Aurelia and Celeste, being regular patrons of the caravanserai, often seek solace in Dromos' office, where they find respite in his warm hospitality and indulge in delightful conversations over the array of teas and coffees he maintains
Adventure Hooks
- Beautiful ethereal singing has been heard out of the caravanserai in the middle of the night, enticing people to leave the caravanserai and follow the voices into the desert. People, irrispective of their gender have been dissapearing. Strangely, children seem immune to its call. Behind their glamorous facade, Celeste and Aurilia share a dark secret. Unbeknownst to the villagers, they are skilled practitioners of forbidden magic, delving into the arcane arts that are strictly forbiddden. Their double lives, as respected merchants by day and clandestine singing enchantresses by night, make them a force to be reckoned with in both the the mundane and supernatural realms. There are people who tie themselves to their caravans to go out into the desert when there's singing. So far, only one person has ever come back. A local named Talbot tied themselves to their horse and journeyed into the desert to find the source of the signing. When they returned they possessed the strange ability to involentarily cast illusions around themself. Alas, their memory of where they went and what happen is completely gone.
- There is a mystical trader that has setup in the caravanserai who is offering fortune telling, but misfortune is befalling all the patrons 3 days after their visit.
