Republic of Truso
Republic of Truso is an oligarchic merchant republic in the south-western part of Atamor. It is one of the wealthiest countries in the world. Some people would even say that it is the wealthiest. Trusans owe their riches to very good iron ore deposits in the south-west range of the Great Mountains. Local merchants have made a fortune on exporting a high-quality iron and iron products to the whole world.
Government
The republic is governed by a council made of the representatives of all 40 noble merchant houses. From among themselves the representatives choose the Doge, who is the head of state. Doge is in office until death.Doge
The Doge is the highest office in the republic chosen from the council for life. However, he isn't an absolute ruler. Every decision the Doge makes must be approved by the council. The Doge has the highest authority only in foreign relations.Small Council

In the times of the Empire of Atamor the city of Truso was the capital of the South-Western province and the biggest centre of metallurgical production in the empire.
Republic of Truso was founded after the Irenaeus' Rebellion and fall of the Empire. When the imperial administration was abolished, the wealthy merchants and industrialists of Truso started to compete for power in the city and the surrounding areas. The wealthiest of them created private armies and a war began.
Truso was devastated from the fighting. About the half of the city was in ruins and many people lost everything they had. In 23 Church, Paolo Rossi, an upstart merchant who made a fortune on supplying the city with food, called all fighting sides to a meeting in the old governor's palace. During the meeting they were trying to reach a consensus about the way the city would be governed. After about 2 years they reached an agreement and the republic was formed. Paolo Rossi became the first Doge.
