Grand-Duchy of Akitania
A large and wealthy country to the south of the Duchy of Letha and the Duchy of Anjev , swearing fealty to the Kingdom of Logres
Structure
The Grand-Duchy of Akitania is a powerful feudal state, ostensibly pledged to the Crown of Gallia, but its significant cultural and political ties to the Fortunate Isles, as well as its great wealth and military strength allow it to exist as a de-facto independent state. The Grand-Duchy pays a regular tribute and gives ceremonial deference to the Per-Ys, but has often forged its own path in economics and war.
The Grand-Duchy is overseen by the Grand-Dug of Akitania and Vasconia, the Northern and Southern halves of the now-unified domain respectively. The Grand-Dug oversees the Captal of Buch directly, and often family holdings elsewhere in the Duchy, while local regional administration is taken on by Konts, Biskonts, Barons and lesser nobles. Other areas are controlled by Grand-Dugal representatives, a network of administrators, magistrates, and castellans.
The Grand-Dug's power is highly centralized in the North, where a robust adminstrative network keeps nobles and merchants largely in check. The Grand-Dug's direct power is less than the Gallian King, but stronger than the Dug of Anjev, where the noble families exert stronger influence. In the East and South, especially Vasconia, noble power is stronger.
Public Agenda
Aquitania has shifted politcally in the past few hundred years between fealty to the Crowns of Gallia and Logres through marriages and political alliances. Wealthy and powerful, it maintains a level of self-autonomy and independence, and is often viewed as the most desirable Duchy to control due to its vast resources, temperate climate and magical stability.
Assets
Aquitainia is one of the wealthiest nations in the area, rich in gold, wine and food, rivaling Gallia itself. It controls several major rivers and ports, including Karregennig is the largest on the continent and boasts and impressive fleet of ships and skyships.
In terms of territorial size, it is one of the largest regions, equaling Tolosa and Arle
