Bedouar

Geography

The true geographic extent of Bedouar is not known to those living in the Western Realms, surrounded by unstable pockets of Bleed leading into dangerous Faewylde. Thick walls of Feth Fiada obscure the borders of this reality.   To the West, the Mor Bras stretches far beyond the horizon, unknown wonders and terrors within its murky depths and atop its churning waves. The Island of Eusa is the most Westerly settled point in what is considered Bedouar.   The Forest of the Erlking, a mountainous and dark region in the Northeast marks another such major Bleed, patrolled by the Erkling's inhuman subjects and ferocious animals. Few expeditions have returned from this mist shrouded land. The Dark Kingdom of Arle borders this hostile land.   The Southeast and South is surrounded by the Shifting Sands, a vast and unforgiving desert. Here, the Feth Fiada is not present like it is in the North, but instead vast sandstorms rise and swirl, blocking out the sky and making travel nearly impossible. Slaver's Coast and Iram of the Pillars are found bordering this region.   Other regions seem to exist beyond these bleeds, with tales of massive jungles to the far South and vast plains to the East, but with the constantly shifting regions of the Faewylde, maintaining regular contact with these areas is exceptionally rare.   While Bedouar supports a diverse range of geographical features, individual features are typically less extreme than those found in Faerie.

History

Two "eras" of time are commonly accepted in Bedoaur. Anno Imperii marks the time before the Tearing of the Great Veil, a thousand year era ruled by the Remusan Empire. At its height, Remus controlled the Western Realms and the Mor Kreizdouar, with holdings as far North as the Island of Albia. The Empire, based in what is now the Shattered Peninsula was a complex and technologically advanced society, but the cataclysm of the Tear and the First Bleed destroyed much of the infrastructure and scarred the lands.   Since the Tear, the world has experienced 2 other major periods of Bleed and has begun to enter a 4th, with the influence of each world on the other increasing with each subsequent event. These are often marked by periods of unrest and upheaval, and conflict between the Bediz and the Fae.   In the millennium since the Tear, the remnants of the Empire fell to powerful tribes and clans arising from the chaos and the world descended into hundreds of city-states and petty kingdoms. These in turn, unified or fell to their neighbors, eventually creating the geopolitical world that dominates Bedouar in the present.
