Ahes Dahut (Ah-hez Daa-hud)

Queen Ahes Dahut (a.k.a. Queen of the Marie-Morgane)

Physical Description

Body Features

Ahes has pale skin, tinged with blue at her fingertips, shoulder-blades and where her torso meets her tail. Her tail is covered in amethyst-coloured scales that shine with unnatural light. Her tail and pectoral fins are seafoam coloured, and appear floating and delicate, like the fins of a beta-fish. A fringe of similar material rings the connection between her torso and tail. A second pair of gills is located on her side.

Facial Features

Ahes has a rectangular-shaped face with large, pointed ears, shifting to a light blue at the tips. Blue markings surround her green eyes, resembling the trails of glistening tears. Her lips are a cerulean blue. Blue-tinged gills are located on her slender neck.   Her long, deep red hair floats in the current freely, and extends down past her pectoral fins.

Identifying Characteristics

Ahes is notable because of the blue markings around her eyes, on her shoulders, waist and fingertips.

Special abilities

Filled with the Foyson of the greatest Wyldstorm to ever strike the Armorican Peninsula, Ahes can draw on a staggering amount of Druidecht, and her centuries of practice have made her own of the most powerful beings in the Worlds. Ahes can, with some effort and circumstances, summon and quell storms, control the city with telekinetic force and shapeshift within the bounds of her curse.   While all Marie-Morgane are capable of using The Oceansong, Ahes can do so with little to no preparation and fast effects. Additionally, she functions as a Fisher King, those within her realm slowly shifting into her reality and that of the Marie-Morgane if they linger in her city.

Apparel & Accessories

Even by the standards of the Marie-Morgane, Ahes wears very little, most prominently a pair of padded brassieres with elaborate interwoven knotwork of silver metal over a pair of dark blue pads. She wears a silver vambrace on her left arm and a small silver torque on her upper right arm. She wears a yellow topaz jewel mounted on a silver pendant around her neck and has affixed a yellow topaz and six blue topaz to her forehead. She wears a six pointed silver tiara.

Personal history

The Princess of Ys

Ahes was born from a union of Gradlon Mwar, King of Kernev and Witch-Queen Malgven of Fjallkonan.   With Ahes's birth came a period of peace and prosperity between Kernev and Dumnonia. As Ahes grew, so too did the Beacon City around her, Bediz and Korrigan working together to create a shining city of white limestone. A complex network of arkane seawalls turned the marshy, flooded islands into a thriving metropolis, worthy of the growing Kingdom. Ahes too, grew into a stunningly beautiful young woman, as headstrong as her mother and clever as her father. She excelled in Huderezh, becoming a powerful Similherez and a capable leader.

Saint Guenole

For over 200 years, Great Kernev had prospered, but dark clouds appeared on the horizon. The troubles began when Malgven returned to Fjallkonan, drawn by her mysterious ere-hud. King Gradlon fell into despondency, the affairs of state no longer interesting him. In the East, a new threat arose as tribes consolidated into city-states and petty kingdoms, often unifying behind The Southern Church. The influence of the Faith spread across borders and cultures. Many took up its unitary rallying cry with zealotry, condemning the old religions, including those of the Druids.   Some of the Faithful carried banners from sincere beliefs, while other stuck out for political opportunity against their rivals who followed the old ways, but Great Kernev remained the most powerful geopolitical entity outside of the growing influence of Lupino. Skirmishes began pressing against its borders and coastlines, while missionaries poured in, preaching a new cosmology and religion, an organized cultural push to convert this "heathen" territory, taking advantage of the King's distracted antipathy and the Fisher Kingdom results it was having on the realm.   Ahes herself stood as a figurehead against these forces, a political and cultural bulwark. Her role became more starkly defined with the entry of a newcomer into the power structures of Ker-Ys.   Gradlon had taken to hunting, often taking long trips to the foothills of the Meneziou Du. On one fateful trip, Gradlon was wounded and became lost, until he came across the itinerant holy man, St. Guenole. Guenole nursed the ailing king back to health and accompanied him back to Ker-Ys.   Guenole was shocked at the "godless depravity" of the Beacon City, taking particular adage with Princess Ahes, condemning her as a heretic and deviant. He took particular issue with her lavish parties and her habit of swimming naked each morning in the bay, as well as her open support for the Korrigan and other Faerie peoples. Guenole secured permission to build a monestary on the Rade de Brest, first setting up on the Enez-Tibidy. The weather coming in from the Mor Bras proved inhospitable, and after three years, he was granted permission to move the abbey to Landevenneg, on the Southern shore of the roadstead. His influence over the court, and especially the King, grew. He and Ahes became faction leaders in opposition to each other.

The Fall of Ker-Ys

Gradlon was taken by Guenole, but still loved his daughter, rebuffing the attempts of either to dismiss or condemn the other. Guenole's allies spread rumors that the Princess would take a new lover to her chambers each night after a night of drinking and debauchery, offering her nocturnal lover a black satin mask. which tightened slowly as the moon sank over the horizon, draining the life from the unfortunate victim. Ahes would ride out and sacrifice the body to the demons of the sea in exchange for magic, power and other rewards.   While the tales of human sacrifice and life-stealing masks were fiction to slander the Princess, Ahes ambitions and sexual openness would sow the seeds of her downfall. Ahes met the Red Knight, a handsome stranger clad in magnificent scarlet armor, who claimed to represent a powerful force in the Fortunate Isles. Taken by his charms and sensing the opportunity for a major political alliance, Ahes entertained the knight and took him to her bedchamber.   A storm began to lash out at the city, but the sturdy, magically reinforced walls stood firm, as they always had. As she entertained her guests over the course of the storm-filled week, Ahes learned of a plot by Guenole's allies against her father, stealing the Silverkey around his neck to control the fate of the city. After a long period of resistance, Ahes gave in to the Red Knights urging, sneaking in to Gradlon's room to steal the key first. But it was a trap and the Red Knight, laughing, overpowered her and opened the floodgates.   Gradlon awoke to see the full height of the sea rushing into the city, walls and wards failing and opening new channels of destruction. The King found Ahes trying to reseal the wards, and, seeing all was lost, the pair mounted the magical horse Morvac'h to gallop across the waves. They found themselves beaten back by the fury of the storm, even the power of the Nightmare unable to gain ground. As the sea began to engulf them, Guenole appeared in a holy light of the rocky outcropping, commanding in a booming voice that to survive, Gradlon must cast away the demon riding with him. Gradlon hesitated as the storm grew stronger, the magical horse unable to rise above the rough waves. Guenole commanded again and Gradlon was struck by a holy vision. He threw Ahes into to waves, the betrayed princess shrieking as she was pulled under. Morvac'h regained its footing and raced the King to safety as the damned city of Ys sank beneath the waves.

The Queen of Ys-Beneath-the-Waves

Guenole's Ere-Hud warped the princess, transforming her from a Bediz to a Marie-Morgane, a fish-tailed mermaid bound to the ruins of the sunken city. She would remain, alone in the ruins, for almost 200 years before a chance encounter with the Druid Rozenn, fleeing the purges of High-King Alain I would change the fate of the Beacon City. A talented Amainsechta, Rozenn was able to restructure the Oceansong to take the lonely burden off of the Princess, allowing the Marie-Morgane to spread, with Rozenn becoming the first "Daughter of Ys."   In 736, Rozenn and Ahes had perfected the Oceansong, growing a small community of shipwrecked travelers and lost fishermen. Threats from The Finfolk threatened the city, too few to do anything but defend the upper floors of the Palace Hill. A daring raid was made along the Aon, the Elorn and the Odet Rivers, capturing supplies and individuals to grow the population. These campaigns became known as the Odet Raids, reaching as far as the city of Kemper before they were driven back to the sea.   With the population boom came another problem, as food began to run low. A unseasonably stormy season, now celebrated as The Coming of the Storms wrecked dozens of ships and coastal towns, the wreckage sustaining the Daughters of Ys during the turbulent time.   Over the years, the Marie-Morgane would continue to grow in number, bringing in new ideas and skills, breaching out to foster relationships with other Tuath, such as The Morgazh, the Selkie and the Jetins Kriores. Throughout this time, Ahes has remained a constant presence in the lives of the Marie-Morgane, guiding her doomed city to new life beneath the waves.

Sexuality

Pansexual/Polyamourous. As Princess of Kernev, Ahes courted lovers of all sexes and genders, taking on a wide range of sexual and romantic partners, often multiples. Her preferences have continued as the Queen of Ys.

Education

Ahes was taught by the finest scholars of Great Kernev and abroad, gaining a reputation as a learned and well-spoken leader, excelling at rhetoric, engineering, the martial sciences and Huderezh. After the Fall of Ys, she has continued to learn from her "daughters", acquiring knowledge wherever she can to dedicate herself to her city and the Marie-Morgane.

Employment

Ahes is the Queen of Ys-Beneath-the-Waves and the Marie-Morgane. Her power is drawn from the Palace Hill, and she maintains her lodging in the central keep, focusing on maintaining the maelstrom of magical power to maintain the city. She rarely travels outside of the city, or even to the Lower Wards.

Accomplishments & Achievements

As Princess of Kernev

Construction

Ahes was responsible for much of the construction of Great Kernev, directing the development of both Ker-Ys and Ker-Ahes, a summer palace deep in the ar goat. She championed large infrastructure projects the construction of roads, docks and canals to link the kingdom together. Her impact on roads in Letha is so significant that the ribbon of dense stars in the night sky is called the Hent Ahes (Ahes' Way)

Military

Ahes organized Kernev's military from the tribal Ambaxtoi of Conan Meriadoc into a unified and organized military. She constructed the fortresses of Nasado and Ranrouët, defending against threats along the Northern ar goat and the Southern wetlands of Ar Briwer respectively. A proponent of full citizenship to the Korrigan, Ahes was instrumental in bringing Korrigan communities into the fold, including the military.

As Queen of Ys-Beneath-the-Waves

Ahes has rededicated her life to the happiness and security of the Marie-Morgane, and considers her work beneath the waves far more important and rewarding than any above. Starting from a desolate ruin, she has built a thriving community, guiding them through storm, war and famine.

Mental Trauma

The Fall of Ys, and her failure to prevent it, still haunts Ahes to this day, and she will awaken late at night with nightmares of the laughing Red Knight and the rush of the waves. She will not travel into the Sea Wall or the Lower Wards except in dire emergencies.   The Oceansong has embedded a deep psychic link between Ahes and each Marie-Morgane, and the death and suffering of any of the Daughters of Ys cause her great emotional and mental distress.

Ahes has a reputation as clever, regal and well spoken, as skilled as a diplomat and engineer as she is as a similherez or warrior.

History

Ahes allied with Aisha against the Red Knight, but failed to prevent Kathalia's corruption. When Aisha was thrown into the sea, it was Ahes who rescued the Paladin, turning her into a Marie-Morgane and forming a unique connection between the pair.   After a long period of mourning and adjustment in the Wade, Aisha swore allegiance to Ahes in a modified Springtide ceremony, taking the form of a knighting ceremony. Aisha has become one of Ahes' most devoted champions.
