Ker-Ahes

Demographics

Located on the edge of the Goat Broceliande and the Meneziou Are, Ker-Ahes is heavily influenced by Faerie, surrounded on all sides by a massive Bleed. As a result, many inhabitants are Boermerzh to some degree, with even some Milliget residing in the town. The Korrigan infest the region in massive numbers, making up the largest population of the Fae races. Some solitary Sidhe reside in the surrounding area, but Trouping Sidhe reside deeper in the wilderness. Formorian raiders have established a near-constant presence along the Seven Roads.   The population of Ker-Ahes skews female and there is a strong (40%) presence of Druidic followers.

Government

Once part of the County of Poher, Ker-Ahes remains a human settlement at the edge of the two major Bleeds, their vassal state ceded to the Courts of Summer and Winter by Duchess Konstanza I. Since then, Ker-Ahes has returned to the control of Kernev, its original overseer. However, the remoteness of the location and its proximity to the Bleed has left the small crossroads city largely on its own.   Control of the city has largely fallen to the Lord Mayor Roparzh Le Duff, whose lineage descends from the Counts of Poher. A gruff warrior, Le Duff is a strong proponent of the continued human resistance against the bleed, focusing largely on his own city with little interest in the goings on at Kemper. The majority of laws are focused on maintaining control of the town's security, including a mandatory curfew at nightfall.

Defences

The fortress of Conomor, Kastel Ruz, is built of the ruins of the palace of Ahes Dahut, a massive keep surrounded by three curtain walls and numerous outbuildings. . The imposing structure of dark red stone looms over the village from its location higher in the mountains, casting a literal shadow over the walled settlement, a event that should be impossible based on the position of the sun. The outer curtain wall and outbuildings are used in periods of extreme duress, but sit largely abandoned. The innermost courtyard and the red keep sit completely untouched since Conomor's reign.   A city wall surrounds the town itself, with a gate-tower located at each of the seven Hent-Ahes roads. The town's keep a small castle, was burnt down during the Formorian raids and never rebuilt.

Industry & Trade

In addition to its locations along the Seven Roads, Ker-Ahes supports a large silver and silver-lead mining operation, and serves as the primary source of metals for Ducal currencies and Silversteel.

Infrastructure

Ker-Ahes is built on the crossroads of seven main roads, the Hent-Ahes, a unique crossroads or Imperial roads connecting Léon (Brest ), Kernev (Kastellin & Kemper ), Gwened, Roazhon and Dreger (Sant-Brioc & Gwengamp. These road elevate the remote city into a small, but important strategic point, and any land travel between Leon and Dreger into Kernev through the mountainous Ar Goat must pass through the town.   The mountains flanking the town and its location over the Hyres Valley made it ideal for a Remusan Aqueduct that continues to service the town, as well as the city of Kemper.

Guilds and Factions

The Redcaps of Menez Du, a Korrigan assassin troupe operate in the ruins outside of the city proper and hold large sway in Faerie influence of the region, demanding the respect, attention and patronage of the Queens of Summer and Winter, as well as Ahes Dahut of Ys-Beneath-The-Waves.   The Urzh Kroashent once maintained a presence in the town, attached to the Commandery at Ar Folled. After the order's destruction, the property was taken over by the Black Order, before being deaccessioned to the Silverblade Company. The Chasseurs de Sang Noir often meet in the town before heading off into the mountain ranges or Broceliande.

History

Built on top of a Remusan trading outpost, Ker-Ahes was created as a Summerrule villa for Ahes Dahut, Princess of Kernev and ally to the Korrigans of the Meneziou Are, marking the Northernmost settlement of Kernev. Following the Fall of Ys, the city, once a symbol of unity between the peoples of the Ar Goat, fell into ruin and neglect, finally breaking away from Kernev following the death of High King Budig I to become capital of Poher.   Around 185 SI, Ker-Ahes became the capital of the Kingdom of Conomor the Cursed, eventual High King of the Bretoned. From the ruins of Ahes's fortress, he controlled the entire peninsula.   During the Second Bleed and the Breton Civil War around 580 SI, the city was sacked by Formorian raiders and reduced to ashes, save for the aqueduct and the Fortress of Conomor, which the raiders refused to attack.

Geography

The City of Seven Roads is one of the most landlocked settlements of note in Breizh, located deep in the Ar Goat, largely isolated between the Meneziou Are to the north and the Menez Du to the south. The village itself sits on a plateau over the vast valley of Hyres, a moorland of slate protrusions and sandstone schists along a winding mountain river of the same name.   The Hyres river is prone to flooding.
