Brest (+)

An isolated port town and fortified harbour on the far west of Duchy of Breizh with the Biskonti Leon (Viscounty of Léon)   He is not the Duke of Brittany who is not the Lord of Brest.

Demographics

The population of the citadel and the surrounding area is primarily made up by Bediz, with Teuz making up the largest Korrigan demographic. Despite its importance as a harbor, the region remains largely isolated and remote, limiting its population size. A sizeable community of Fomorians, largely emigrated from Normaundie and the Orkney Isles, has made a permanent home in the region, working as manual labourers and sailors at the drydocks and on ocean-going vessels.   Other Faerie peoples reside in the city, to a lesser extent, including Kornikaned, Tuatha de Danaan and Tempestarii.   The majority of the population are soldiers, sailors and shipwrights, dedicated to defending the port and maintaining the Duchy's maritime and aerial fleets.

Government

While the area surrounding the Citadel is within the Lordship of Low-Leon, control of the fortress falls directly under the authority of the Duchy of Letha as ducal property, administered to an appointed Castellan, currently a veteran soldier named Garnier de Klison.

Defences

The harbor of Brest is well protected by a castle and a fortified harbour, under the control of the veteran commander Garnier de Klison. Across the river on a rocky motte stands the Tanguy Tower, which provides additional protection of the narrow straight.   The Roc'han bridge and the Castle of Roc'h Morvan prevent upstream navigation along the Dourdu River.

Infrastructure

Brest houses an important bridge crossing the Penfell river within its territory, just below the castle. Watermills have been built up along the Penfell, Dourdu and Aon rivers.   A built up and inhabited 5-arch bridge on the Dourdu, built by House Roc'han prevents upstream navigation, defended by the castle Roc'h Morvan, home of the Viscount of Faou, which overlooks the crossing. Tolls are collected from this bridge, which includes 2 shops, a prison and a watermill, as well as houses on the upper level.

Assets

Brest possesses a large fleet of 30 warships and many smaller craft, all directly reporting to the Dug. It also possesses several Windships, outfitted for war, a sizeable number of military grade aerial vessels for a human force. Numerous civilian fleets of ships can be found at the various small ports of the Roadstead.

Geography

Brest is constructed on the Northern Bank of the Rade de Brest in the Lordship of Low-Leon, where the Dourdu and Aon Rivers meet the Mor Bras. Across a narrow straight the Crozon Peninsula completes the narrow bottleneck that separates the natural harbor from the waters beyond.   The citadel itself is built on two hills divided by a small river, with the majority of the fortifications on the East Bank, while the small civilian town of Recouverance sits on the West Bank. The steep banks of these hills have necessitated the carving of stone stairs to navigate upwards from the river, and at times the second or third story of a house will exit onto a street far above the entrance on the lower floor.

Natural Resources

The Elorn is a notable salmon run, running from the Meneziou Are to Brest.
