Bro Bagan

The Bro Bagan is a vaguely defined stretch of coastline in the Viscounty of Léon that has been largely subsumed by Faerie, becoming a stronghold of the Sidhe and the Druids. It's territory stretches along the northern Ar Mor from the Dunes of Keremma to Aber Wrac'h.   The region was the site of a crucial battle between the forces of the Southern Church and the Druidic supporters of the Fae when a large fleet of Sidhe pirates attacked the area in the days of St. Guenole, but were pushed back by an army of the Faithful. The battle marked the end of the political influence of the Druids and Sidhe Courts for a long time as the Southern Church took control of the Peninsula. However, subsequent centuries of Fae activity have significantly undermined the influence of the Southern Church in the area since then.

Geography

The Ar Mor Bagan is located within the Biskonti Leon in the Penn-ar-Bed, the far-Western tip of the Armorican Peninsula, between the Aber Wrac'h and La Fleche Rivers. The region sits in the center of the other divisions of Leon, with the Lordship of Low-Leon on its Western border, the Lordship of High Leon on its East.   The Northern Coast has a deserved reputation as one of the most dangerous stretches of coastline along the Mor Breizh, filled with sharp rocks and hidden reefs, made more treacherous by thick banks of Feth Fiada and rough, stormy waters.   The low-lying region is filled with marshy wetlands, as many streams and rivers flow into the Narrow Sea in the region, giving much of the coast's water a brackish quality. Lagoons and abers are common along the coastline, home to a wide variety of flora and fauna.

Points of Interest

Aber Wrac'h - Generally considered the Western edge of the Bro Bagan, although the changing nature of the numerous small rivers that flow into it make a hard border difficult to determine, the Aber Wrac'h is a naturally deep harbour surrounded by rolling, grassy hills. Villages of white walls and golden thatched roofs dot the river's edge and hills, while a small castle sits serenely on a bend on the river. Ruins of all eras can be found across the entire valley. Several small islands can be found within largely unoccupied, save for a lonely lighthouse. An Imperial footbridge spans several of the rivers. Given the nickname of "the Devil's Bridge" it has a reputation for being cursed.   Dunes of Keremma - A stretch of large sand dunes that mark the Eastern boundary of the Bro Bagan, although similar terrain extends into High-Leon. A chapel of the Southern Church lies abandoned on a promontory extending into the sea. The hills behind these dunes are covered with large boulders and rocky outcroppings, giving them a rugged appearance.

Fauna & Flora

Aber Wrac'h has been almost completely subsumed by Faerie. Sidhe and Milliget make up 90% of the civilized population, and many of the remaining mortals are Boemerezh to some degree.

Natural Resources

Chondrus Sea Moss - Red algae seaweed is commonly harvested here for fertilizer, especially after storms. Locals will travel out in small boats with sickles attached to long poles to collect it, bringing the haul back to teams of horsecarts waiting in the shallows. It is forbidden to begin the harvest until the fires of the lighthouse have been extinguished. It is common for boundary disputes concerning the seaweed harvest to lead to brawls.

  • The sharp reefs and submerged rocks along the coast have provided an unorthodox resource: Wreckage. When a ship dashes against the rocks, the local gather on the beaches, ready for the bounty that flows in with the storm-surge. Sometimes, lanterns will be tied to cows or donkeys, which wander the beach intimating the sway of a ship, drawing in unsuspecting victims. When the ship begins to go down, armed looters swarm the deck, taking what they can, killing those who oppose them or leaving them to the elements. This activity is hardly unique to the Bro Bagan, and is common in Leon, but the Church is quick to condemn it as proof of Fae bloodlust.
