Mental characteristics

Personal history

Champion of the Faith

Little was expected of Ailinor, the Fourthdaughter of a minor noble house in the Tolosan Countryside. With three healthy siblings in line for the title and little inclination towards military tradition, she was sent off to a convent in Clermont to become a nun.   Neither quiet meditation nor charitable almsgiving sat particularly comfortably for Ailinor's keen mind and inquiring personality. Ailinor gained a reputation for problem solving (and problem causing, her search for both spiritual and physical proof often causing embarrassment for the abbey), extending beyond the abbey.   When Arnaud Amalric launched the Inqusition of Arles, the Abbess recommended Ailinor for a position within The Order of Albi to root out heresy. She gained a reputation for thoroughness, but also as a fair and objective judge. She was partnered with Brother Marcus, a sadistic criminal pardoned and brought into the Order as an enforcer willing to carry out Amalric's more brutal judgements without question.   The pair was sent to the Mor Bihan, an inland sea on The Armorican Peninsula to investigate rumors of heresy as tensions between the Duchy of Letha and the Southern Church grew. After a confrontation involving an innocent Milliget child, Ailinor broke with Marcus and the Inquisition, and was fatally stabbed with a spear on the shore. Ahes Dahut, seeing Ailinor step in to defend both the child Honore and the Marie-Morgane, saved her, but at the cost of her humanity.

The Perfect of Ys

Ailinor's position in the Inquisition and the Southern Church, enemies of the Marie-Morgane since the days of St. Guenole put her under suspicion despite her heroics. She was kept a prisoner in the wade until the Similherez Ghyslaine offered to step in as a sponsor. Ailinor had a difficult time transitioning to her new life, a burden made worse by the unveiling of the true colours of her Inquisitor brethren. A chance encounter in the Lower Wards, where she discovered an old shrine of the Faith, renewed her passion and faith. She rededicated herself to learning about her new home and sisters, entering the Springtide ceremony with Ghyslaine.   Ailinor began to sense a lingering crisis within some of the former Faithful among the Marie-Morgane. Despite the risks of angering the Queen of Ys, Ailinor appeared before Ahes to ask to reopen la cathedral engloutie as a chapel of the Faith. She made a passionate defense of the Faith's doctrine and what it could represent, despite the corruption in its leadership and the dogma of the surface. Ahes was initially dismissive, until she heard the price Ailinor was willing to pay. She would personally lead an all volunteer expedition to rid all of White Hill of The Finfolk. Reclaiming the third hill of Ker-Ys was a prize to great to leave on the table, and Ahes relented.   "Ailinor's Crusade" as it became known, proved an incredible success, driving the finfolk on Whitehill into the Lower Wards with minimal casualties for the Daughters of Ys. The reclaimed neighborhood allowed the Marie-Morgane to begin to leave the crowded confines of Palace Hill and spread out to the manors and rowhouses of the ecclesiastic district. Ahes, true to her word, allowed Ailinor to resanctify la cathedral engloutie as the seat of the Church of Ys.

Gender Identity

Ailinor identifies as female, before and after her change into Marie-Morgane.

Sexuality

Prior to becoming Marie-Morgane, Ailinor lived as a celibate nun, then cleric, disinterested in romantic or sexual relationships. As she re-examined her faith after her transformation, she began to re-evaluate her personal sexuality as well. Ailinor is currently in a lesbian relationship with her wife and love of her life, Renee.

Social

Religious Views

Ailinor has a deep faith and conviction in the Faith, although she has come to understand the corruption that plagued the Church of her era. Her struggles adjusting her religious convictions to her new circumstances and broadened awareness has led her to significant deviation for Church dogma, unintentionally founding the "Church of Ys", adjusting the Church's view of the Hud, Faerie and numerous other points. Given the makeup of the Marie-Morgane, the Four Aspects of the Divine are typically represented in female or gender-neutral terms, with the Maiden being referred to as "the Healer".   Ailinor is eager to expand on her theological understanding, frequently "sparring" with Archdruidess Rozenn in spirited debates, and regularly meeting with her sisters of other faiths, although few rise to the level of direct engagement as Rozenn.   Ailinor is especially concerned over the fate of the Drifting, the exiles, often self-imposed, of Ys, preaching a message of forgiveness and belonging. Ailinor is responsible for the return of dozens of Drifting, and a softening of attitudes towards them among the Daughters of Ys.   While the Church of Ys is largely unknown on the surface, outside of a few sporadic settlements, it is known to the Council Solarium and is registered as a heretical movement. However, the Church is unable to address this directly via missionaries or inquisition, further hindered by a historical treatment of the Marie-Morgane as a whole as "enemies of the Church." As an information campaign against Ailinor's church would involve acknowledging it exists at all, the Church's hands are tied, knowledge limited to a few select members of notable organizations, such as The Silent Sisters of Llydaw and the Order of Albi.

Social Aptitude

Ailinor is extremely persuasive, a spirited debater. She regularly argues with Rozenn, but as a long line of successes to her credit, swaying even other inquisitors and Ahes herself to her point of view in many cases. She is inquisitive and compassionate, and eager to understand the viewpoint of others.

History

Ailinor had long lived the celibate life of a cleric of the Faith, until she joined Adele and Fleur on a mission targeting a fortified rivergate. The remote fortification had long thwarted the Merrow's access to the Liger River, a crucial inland route for their surface operations.   While observing the patrols, Ailinor became infatuated by the handsome soldier Renee. A chance encounter provided an opportunity to distract him while he was on watch, but quickly grew into a real connection. Unaccustomed to the sudden feelings of romantic longing and physical desire, Ailinor fell hard, her flirtatious distraction leading into a proper Courtship.   Despite claiming she would never take part in the ritual, Ailinor quickly grew flustered, and, with the coaching of her friends, who quickly became invested in the romance, she fully embraced the long dismissed part of her culture, following the ritual precisely as the love between the pair grew. When Rene had completed their quests, she gave the knight the gift of The Oceansong. Renee became a Marie-Morgane, happily embracing her lover.   Renee quickly adapted to her new life, joining Ailinor in a well-attended Springtide ceremony that the pair treated as their marriage. Renee lives with her lover in the old Archperfect's manor.
