Fae

The term fae (or fey) is used in several ways. It refers broadly to all life in the Faewolds, and indeed may be used of all creatures of the Primal Wild.   More specifically, it refers to the intelligent lineages of Wild and Wold, which ascribe to the various modes of thought and behaviour known as the Courts of the Fae. Some such creatures may be switched for mortal children, becoming Changelings.
  • Woldgrowth refers to all plant hole in the faewolds and much of that in the Wild. While some wold growth is carnivorous, it is not intelligent.
  • Florae are plants capable of movement and thought, such as treants and blights. Some are cleverer than others.
  • Woldbeasts are the animal life of the faewilds, no more intelligent than mortal animals.
  • Fae Beasts are animal-like in form, but with much greater intelligence than mere animals. They are generally good-natured, and capable of forging profound bonds with other creatures. e. g. troth beasts, giant lynx and blink hounds. Shadowbeasts are more aggressive, but still intelligent. e. g. geth hounds and displacer beasts.
  • Faeries (aka fairies) are sentient fae with limited power and typically diminutive stature. e. g. pixies, sprites, quicklings, red caps or boggles.
  • Wildlings are larger, with less intrinsic power but much greater potential than faeries. e. g. satyrs, nymphs (including dryads) and darklings.
  • High Fae are stronger and more powerful than any common fae. They wrap their true appearance in glamours and illusion. They are often thought of as deceitful, although in truth this is more because of an alien and very particular perspective on life and virtue than any intrinsic untrustworthiness. e.g. hags, lordly fae, and the greatest of nymphs.
  • Archfae are the rulers of the faewolds, each one a singular and unique being, with astonishing power and absolute authority within their own domain.
