Courts of the Fae

Although sometimes misconceived as political organisations, the Courts of the Fae are really more like philosophical positions. There are many such courts in the Wild and in the Wolds, but some of the larger and more widespread are:
  • The Court of Spur and Banner - a group of questing knights, heroes and champions. Wolds ruled by Archfae of the Spur and Banner resemble fairytale kingdoms, with all the perils that implies.
  • The Court of Mist and Darkness - masters of illusion, deception and political machinations. Archfae of this court rule domains filled with silence and secrets.
  • The Court of Sea and Stone - a hard-working court of sailors, builders and climbers. The wild and stormy realms of Archfae of Sea and Stone demand much of both visitors and residents.
  • The Court of Fire and Iron - a cruel and autocratic court of conquerors. Since they cannot leave their own Wolds, archfae of this court shape their domains to train loyal generals to seize neighbouring wolds and make them into client domains.
  • The Court of Oak and Ash - guardians of nature and ravagers of cities, Archfae of this court rule domains of boundless wilderness. Lesser fae of Oak and Ash have reputations as tricksters, forever working to throw down civilisations.
  • The Court of Shadow and Dust - scholars of death and the soul, and enemies of necromancers and the undead. Domains of this court are grim and sepulchral, but possess a bleak dignity.
  • The Court of Haunts and Nightmares - grim guardians of the nightmare cysts, where the Void presses on the Wild. They are bitter foes of the Void-Corrupted Court of the Outer Dark, which is led by those archfae who failed to tame a nightmare cyst and were instead overtaken.
