High Fae
The high Fae are powerful and highly individual beings, of the kind likely to one day become Archfae in their own right. The same category includes powerful eladrinate enchanters and the mightiest of faewold monsters.
The Danaan Sitha are the acme of the danaan, the 'native' wldlings created when mortals are caught in the claiming of a wold. They brim over with fae power, but while they are always potent, their full potential is only achieved in their home domain. They exist in sympathy with the wold, and outside it their abilities - which vary widely depending on the character of their home - are limited and, more importantly, their reserve of energy is slower to recover.
Within the wold, the sitha typically form part of the archfae's court. Their bond with the land gives them a sense of natural aristocracy, which is usually respected by the lesser danaan, if by no-one else. As their powers are typically in sympathy with the archfae's nature, they also make clear and visible projections of the archfae's will and authority. As a consequence of these two factors, no-one tends to like them very much.
Hagga are powerful high fae associated with violations of the social norms. Native to the Primal Wild as much as to any one wold, they revel in the grotesque and the inappropriate. They are shapeshifters, but favour forms that others find sinister, offputting or intimidating. They typically enter Faewolds in defiance of their archfae - although a few specialise in insinuating themselves as poisonous advisers - make homes in the least loved parts of the realm and draw increasing levels of dark Magic - usually Necrosis, rather than the Void - to pollute the region.
A single hag is dangerous, but not usually a threat to an archfae. A coven of hagga are exponentially more powerful than the sum their individual members, however. A coven may have three, seven or thirteen members, although a full thirteen is rarely seen unless the hagga involved intend not just to corrupt, but to steal a wold from its master. Three is as many hagga as can usually maintain a courteous alliance.
Royal Faeries are the most powerful of their kind. They are the focus of the power of their entire kingdom, using the magic of faerie crowns to concentrate that power and wield it individually as well as commanding it as a ruler. The royal faeries are unusual, in that they hold the status of great fae not by birth, nor by age, but through the specific inheritance of a Crown.
The royalty of a faerie kingdom lead their people as a sort of enclave within the wold, autonomous and sometimes troublesome - it is in the nature of faeries to be disruptive, but not rebellious - but ultimately loyal to their archfae. They marshall their followers to maintain the infrastructure of the domain - tending flora, corralling fauna, working mines and forges - and channelling their more chaotic drives to productive ends.
Like the sithi and the royals, the high nymphs are the first of their kind, spirits of the oldest trees, the largest rivers. They do not rule other nymphs, but they do control the doors of spring and root, a network of portals which allow nymphs to pass from the faewolds and inhabit the fabric of the material World. For the nymphs, material Existence has a different savour to the fae, and experiencing it is a privilege. As is their nature, the high nymphs inhabit both the material and the fae.
Born when fae energy infects the regenerative capability of trolls, Grendels are almost impossibly resilient and driven by powerful, primal impulses. While not without intelligence, only their elders typically manage to gain enough self control to make use of any cerebral advantages. Even by troll standards, they are strong and quick to heal. Life in the faewold imbues many with a gift for stealth, although most lack the patience to make full use of it.
Elder grendels are among the most dangerous creatures in the Primal Wild. In addition to their regenerative and combat ability, they often display both fae and arcane power, high intelligence and deep cunning. They also tend to have a lifetime of experience as outsiders, victims of persecution and abandonment, making them highly defensive and overprotective of their families.
Vanishingly rare, wolddrakes, better known as jabberwocky, are Lesser Dragons, but with the power of a high fae. Some are animalistic, others ingenious; the only constant is singularity. Each jabberwock is uniquely transformed from the already eclectic 'baseline dragon' by exposure to the primal nature of the faewolds, often blending the animal and vegetable in the same way as florimels.
