Florae

Florae are plants that possess both movement and intelligence, either transformed by the basal energies of the wold, or by the will of the Archfae. Depending on the character of the realm, florae may be dark figures in the shadow of the woods, or colourful neighbours on a village green.   Blights are the least of the florae, savage creatures with little personality or deeper intellect. They typically emerge, as their name suggests, from sinister locales, steeped in the energy of death or of the Void. They are more at home in the dark of the Grim Plain than in Wild and wold, and are of use to most archfae - save the most grim - largely as the obstacles of such quests as drive the life of a faewold.   Woads are mortals or Fae who have been transformed into florae in order to act as a guardian to a place or a creature. They are intensely focused, to the point that they can be dangerous even to those who mean no harm, and having sacrificed their hearts to the transformation are completely without remorse.   The Treefolk are the elder statespeople of the florae. They are powerful, and typically many centuries old before they fully awaken, or else metamorphose from dryads or other wood nymphs. Some of them are lonely sentinels of the green woods, while others marshal packs of blights and witless ambulatory trees from the shadows of haunted forests. Old, slow and stubborn, the treefolk make powerful allies for the archfae, but poor instruments. While not immune to manipulation, it takes so long to rouse them to do anything outside of their fundamental nature that it is seldom worth the effort. Whether bright or dark by nature, tree folk care little for anything outside their own forests, and while terrible when roused they more often act defensively.   Sirenblooms are a class of florae related to psychoactive Woldgrowth. They use a variety of botanical and arcane mechanisms to lure, ensnare and control animals. Mature sirenblooms lack mobility, but use their animal servant to make up for the lack. As the name suggests, most sirenblooms are some form of flowering plant, but similar capacities can manifest in ferns or even fungi. They are also related to impersonating oozes, such as mimics.   In isolation, sirenbhoms have only an animal level of intelligence, but as they use animals for moving parts, so the bloom and its puppets collectively form a higher order intelligence, especially if it can subborn intelligent servants. Some archfae will provide 'partners' for a sirenbloom in order to create a useful ally.   Diminutive and fierce, the Floreat Knights are a breed of animate flowers, possessing not only motion and intelligence, but courage and a questing fervour. They seem to emerge from the woldgrowth in response to a need for justice or restitution, adopting flamboyant histories and titles, and presenting themselves as champions of the downtrodden and the helpless.
