Changelings

Changelings are Fae, born as faeries, wildlings or even high fae, who are exchanged shortly after birth for mortal infants who seize the notice of their parents, or more often their parents, liege lords. Although given the seeming of the mortal child they replace, as they grow, changelings develop oddities of appearance which tell of their true nature. Most common are unusual colours of eye, hair or skin, or different numbers of fingers or toes on each hand and foot. Changelings also tend to have very small external ears and noses, but large eyes.
Perhaps as a result of being reshaped so early in life, changelings have malleable features, allowing them to make substantial changes to their appearance at will, and without the use of transmutation or illusion Magic. Often mistrusted, adult changelings frequently gravitate to work in espionage or crime.
Changelings rarely have any sense of ethnic identity as changelings, instead living as outcasts in their adopted cul­tures. Those that do meet other changelings are as likely as anyone to reject them. The exception is changelings who meet other changelings as children, before the sting of rejection really has a chance to bite.
