Deep-Sea Witch Character in Age of Gray | World Anvil

Deep-Sea Witch

[...]The Blue waters rose and something moved within them. A silhouette, dripping Blue and Black was still covered by them. But instead of seeing something made out of those two, two other colors showed up. White and green. It seemed impossible. Nothing coming from the depths of the Southern Sea should retain its Color. Unless...   That was a Witch.
Chronicler of Golvageth, entry 632
A mysterious Witch that emerged from the waters of the Southern Sea close to Golvageth. Not much is known about her.

Personal history

I couldn't find anything about her. Flipping pages of a book after book about known Witches, there was nothing about something like her or her past.
???
A discovered tale
There's a single text, a Tale of the Witch of Purification, found by the Chronicler of Golvageth, which could be describing Deep-Sea Witch's past. If it really is about her, in the past she was a White Witch of Purification. She lived in the area where Golvageth is located before it was even built. She made a lot of enemies among other Witches by trying to find a way to counteract and clean the Oversaturation (geographic anomaly). They got rid of her by subjecting her to Sea Grave Banishment.   For whatever reason, after spending centuries in the endless Blackness of the Southern Sea, the Sea Shackles pulling her down finally broke.

Appearance

If no book had anything about her, it was in my hands to record everything about her. I started by making a quick sketch.
Deep-Sea Witch is a tall (187cm) slim human (at some point) woman. Due to the extended use of Adaptation, her body resembles its former structure only in its shape. In places where clothes touched her skin, the two of them fused together becoming a cellulose-like partially transparent substance. Her "dress" is long enough to cover her feet, although it isn't certain if she still possesses them.
In the places where her skin was uncovered (face and hands), it completely lost any pigment, became white and rubbery like the skin of a dolphin. Additionally, strange bone structures have formed upon her neck and waist. They are a part of her dress-body.   She has a pair of big round, black eyes. Only two small white circles in the middle of them give any indication of what she's looking at. While it is hard to notice it when looking from the front, she has a small cute nose contrasting her long face. Her lips are small and completely black, and once in a while get covered by her hair, looking more like tangled kelps than normal hair due to the overusing of the spell. The inside of her mouth is dark green and filled with sharp teeth.   Her head is adorned by a big, black hat made to look like (or made out of) a giant jellyfish with its tentacles dangling down. There's a luminescent bulb (organ?) attached to the top of it on a long ray similar to the lures seen among anglerfish.

This seems really interesting. Nice start to the article! I love the image and the idea that her hat really might be a real jellyfish.

This is a really interesting character! I'm looking forward to seeing her personal history expand, and to finding out more about witches in general. Great article!

Right now I'm wondering how hard it is to kill a witch. I know they'll probably do a lot of damage while you try, but are they more Juggernauts of unstoppable destruction, or glass cannons? Right now it seems like a ballistae shot or two would work, you'd just have to deal with the explosion of color from the dead witch's body and any spells she'd think to cast beforehand. Is the dress armored with Black pigment, perhaps?

Witches are more on a demigod scale compared to humans. If you don't have the army, you sneak up on them when they don't use any spells that will warn them about that, or you have found a way to neutralize their Colors, it's very hard to deal with them once they are on guard. Especially if they don't care about damage to the area they are in.   And in the case of Deep-Sea Witch, her dress is more like a part of her body now, though being soaked in Black will make it tougher than it should be.
