Snake Monasteries

A snake monastery is a building that -in its simplest form- houses a snake oracle and her guardian, though larger ones have enough room for an entire order of monks or nuns devoted to keep the oracle within safe, along with storages for food, clothing and other necessities provided by locals or pilgrims in exchange for being able to visit the monastery in search for answers for difficult dilemmas.
Originally built around the entrances to sacred caves to keep out unwelcome visitors, snake monasteries are now often found at or near other important sites such as freshwater springs (particularly sources of great rivers), waterfalls, sacred groves and mountain peaks, and vary in size and shape depending on local materials, climate and architectural traditions. In Gedirkía and other major nemirkían cities, for example, snake monasteries are small and subterranean structures, while in the Sjorgús Mountains they are the greatest structures in the region and the pride of the local Paheiríen-Elves.
Snake monasteries are found in many places throughout Adynía, especially those inhabited by or at least heavily influenced by elven cultures, such as the Sjorgús Mountains, Núrak, Marissía and -to lesser extent- Nemirkía and Pargos Mountains.
The monasteries are particularly important to the people of the Sjorgús Mountains, both elven and to some extent dwarven, but many now lie in ruins due to attacks by Dragons in the western part of the mountains, as do the ones in the region of Larúnas further west.
