Gedirkía is the capital of the Sikíron Empire, and the largest city in Adynía. Originally known as Irka, it was home of the Paþaríans, one of many tribes native to the Kóteran Peninsula who, after uniting the region under their king Stárakíus, would eventually found the Paþarían Empire, with the city as its capital. After the fall of Paþaría, the city became the center of Tirúlíon, one of the empire successor states and, and later as the current capital of the Sikíron Empire under its current name.

Demographics

While a majority of the inhabitants are mostly human Nemirkíans, the city is home to ethnic group from all over the empire and beyond, most notably Kadríans, descendants of Góalanics, and Tanikaz-dwarves, who trace their ancestry back to the craftsmen of ancient Zameltonía.
The royal family lives on Alkons Hill and many prestigious families make their home around the hill, while commoners inhabit the rest of the city along the Copper River and around the harbour.

Defences

A number of old defensive walls and towers mark the city limits during various points in its history, many of which are in poor shape due to becoming obsolete and being used as quarry by the inhabitants. The only exception is the outermost wall, known as the Þrelíanus' Wall, though its role is mostly ceremonial.

Infrastructure

Alkons Hill serves as the city's acropolis, where the imperial palace is located along with The Great Temple, and a sacred spring where the Falcon Oracles perform their rituals.

Main market squares

  • Market of Farus features vegetables, olive oil and spices.
  • Market of Metvía is located between Alkons Hill and Copper River, where wine and other drinks from across the empire and beyond are sold. It's also one of the few places where one can buy borrol, a mixture of wine and milk made by local tanikaz-dwarves.
  • Market of Úkvus is located in one of the poorest parts of the city, used to sell livestock.
  • Market of Úlakis is a fish market located at the southern bank of Copper River.
  • Market of Vían is where enchanted gear, magic staves- and crystals are sold. At its center is a statue of Elevía, local goddess of magic and healing.
  • Market of Vúþritía features bread and cakes of all sorts, located just south of Alkons Hill.
  • Market of Þalisíus is located near the city barracks, where one can buy live pigs and a variety of pork-based foodstuff. At it center is a statue of the eponymous Þalisíus, a boxing champion from Pérgal who, after a nine year winning streak against the boxers of Tirúlíon, made a bet that if he lost, his life-sized statue in Pérgal would be moved to the pig market of Gedirkía. The statue has stood there for nearly 500 years.
  • Architecture

Most buildings are made of fired clay-bricks and timber with tiled roofs, the walls are sometimes faced with marble but more commonly with gypsum, often painted in bright colours on the outside both for decoration and to identify different homes, shops and taverns. Homes housing the entire family are generally restricted to the wealthy, while most people live in apartments of varying quality. The ground floor of these apartments is generally used for shops and taverns, each successive story above becomes gradually less structurally sound, with the poorest living at the top.
