Paþarian

Paþarian was the language of the ancient Paþaríans who ruled much of central Adynía a thousand years ago, and served as the official language of their vast empire. However, the majority of the empire's subjects spoke their own native languages in their daily lives and spoke only paþarian as a second language, and for the most part it remained mother tongue of the aristocracy and, later on, the highest ranks of commoners in major cities. However, at the time of Paþaría's collapse, most commoners knew at least some paþarian as a second language due to its prestige, and in some of the successor states it remained the language of the military, scholars and nobles, and certain aristocratic families continued using it exclusively as a status symbol.
A number of languages spoken within the Sikíron Empire, which now rules central Adynía, evolved from paþarian, some of which are vibrant such as Sikíronian, official language of Sikíron, while others such as patic and languages of the other successor states are far more obscure.
Today, members of the royal family learn paþarian as part of their general education, while other members of the aristocracy often know a variety of songs and incantations via working as priests and priestesses, though few actually understand the meaning of the chants. Its use among mages and other scholars has also been replaced by kadrían for the most part.

Writing System

Paþarian was written using an alphabet which closely resembles modern sikíronian script, though with a few more letters.

Vocabulary

Paþarian shares most of its vocabulary with the other mirkenic languages spoken in central Adynía, as well as with old núrakic due to the paþarían royal family's close ties with the núrakic elven tribes to the west. A few loanwords from Tanikazian occur as well, as many paþaríans during the early empire were fascinated by the ancient dwarven empire of Zameltonía, which had been a major bronze age power on the Meldon Plain millennia before.
