Kingdom of Marissía

Marissían:
Marissía (marissíska)
Faronian: Merissos
Merissos (desa)
Larúnean: Maritta

The Kingdom of Marissía is located in southern Adynía, bordering Zirdinóin to the west and northwest, the Sjorgús Mountains to the northeast, Efergen beyond the river Taþyrin to the east, the coast of the Silver Sea to the southeast and the Þatal Plains to the southwest. It encompasses the entire region of Marissía as well as the northeasternmost part of the Þatal Plains, the latter which is called Húris among the inhabitants.

History

The kingdom itself was founded during the early 7th century a. Paþ, after the king of Lóþrilía to the west forged an alliance with various neighboring þatalean tribes and conquered the rest of Marissía, but marissían civilization is among the oldest in Adynía. Unlike Larúnas beyond the Sjorgús Mountains to the west and the people of the mountains, Marissía has largely escaped attacks by Dragons and its archers have generally proven successful at slaying the beasts before they've caused too much destruction.

Structure

Society

The two most prominent ethnic groups within the kingdom are Marissíans to the north, east and west on one hand, and various nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes of Þataleans on the southern steppe and along the coast. Other notable ethnicities include a community of Faronians and larúnean descendants within the coastal city of Barandin (though the latter have all but completely merged with mainstream marissían culture) to the south, Gartaraz-dwarves in to the east and Paheiríen-Elves to the north, the latter two both hailing from the Sjorgús Mountains.

Government

The royal court is located in the capital of Aróvehal-ei-Kapor at the northeastern shore of Kapor Lake.

Provinces

The Kingdom of Marissía is made up of four provinces.
Húris
Covers the northeasternmost part of the Þatal Plains to the south, as well as much of the coastline. It lacks any sorts of permanent settlement, instead the tribes there make camps along the coast during winter and move inland during summer. While the tribal chiefs enjoy relative independence in exchange for keeping other þataleans at bay, they attend an annual assembly to renew their bond with the king and solve ongoing disputes.
Lóþrilía
Covers the western part of Marissía, bordering Húris to the southeast and Ófelóin to the northeast. Its main cities are the capital of Aróvehal-ei-Kapor to the north, and Óhyrillía to the south. Lóþrilía is the only region in Adynía that produces papyrus on a large scale.
Ófelóin
Covers the northern part of Marissía, bordering Lóþrilía to the west, Húris to the south and Zekalún to the east. Its main city is Eiakal, a major center of learning due to its proximity to the Faraldún Academy.
Zekalún
Covers the eastern part of Marissía, beyond which lies the mysterious region of Efergen. Its main cities, the coastal Barandin and inland Sjarehín are some of the wealthiest within the kingdom, being part of an important trade route that connects the Sikíron Empire to the north with the distant Kingdom of Faron to the east.
