Geomantic Bond/Geomancy

Next we come to the blocky more stone like.....currents is a stretch of a word. The Manna of Domhan does not move as we would picture it from the lessons we've had thus far. It is less fluid and more...tectonic in its nature. Shifting slowly, ever so slowly, over years and decades, as is the way of Earth. Geomancers are more akin to stonecarvers, stonemasons or miners than any other comparison that can be made. Most magisters weave, they forge. Most magisters guide and shape, they construct and craft. These differences are not just cultural in the language surrounding the art. They are differences of how they manipulate Domhan to form their spell-forms, and how different it feels. They are stoic, they are hardy, they are immoveable, they are as the stone around you. Honestly it is difficult to explain, and those of you touched by Domhan will just come to understand what it is I refer to when you are taught properly, master to apprentice.

First Arcanist Theresa Lindlewood, giving the introductory lecture to the a hall of several dozen newly marked magister hopefuls in the Academia of Octi, the largest campus of the Magisterium, in the city of Valenwood.

Magisters of the Topaz Order share many similarities in their methods and training approach as their brethren of the Ruby Order. However their relationship with Domhan in comparison to how the relationship with Doitean effects their Ruby Brethren creates some very stark and notable differences. They also often are, besides perhaps the magisters of the Diamond Order, the Order with the lengthiest apprenticeship times.

Manifestation

The Geomantic Bond manifests itself in a wide variety of ways, the effects of Domhan are well documented, if kind of unique. The bond effects the body, mind and soul, as all the bonds do, and has a major hand to play in regards to their stoicism, their stockiness and strength and size, as well as their very logical and organized methods of thinking. Everything from dietary choices, training methods, discipline and behavior will be effected by this as well. This is because this bonding, this 'coming of age' for a magickally attuned individual exercises a great deal of influence upon their person physically, emotionally and even physiologically;

Physical Changes

Those whom experience the Geomantic Bonding will experience a fair variety of physical changes. The first is a natural growth, a stockiness of form that will take them, solid like mountain. They will see their appetite increase a noticeable, but not massive, amount. Their skin will darken to an earthy like tone, their hair will darken likely to black or earthy tones, though some rarely see it change to a metallic hue. Their eyes will take on an amber or earthy tone as well, which will glow a topaz hue when they are in the midst of spell-weaving.

Besides these obvious physical changes some other less obvious ones may occur;

  • A toughening, almost leathering and callousing of skin, to the point where touching the skin feels almost like rock.

  • Changes of a Dietary nature, favoring more earthy flavor profiles, and more heavy root flavors like onion, radish, garlic and others in your foods.

  • A solidifying, almost crystalizing of fingernails, which stop growing really. They seem almost as if quartz stone.

Emotional Changes

A Topaz magister will be calm, but stern and fierce. They are stubborn, yet logical and well spoken, with a sharp mind for processes, construction and task orientation. All of this comes from the way their emotional and mental state is altered with their bond to Domhan. There is not a lot to explain about this, as their is with the other Orders, for the truth of the matter is as simple as it sounds.

Physiological Changes

Those of the Topaz Order experience far less of these than most of their brethren. Their needed food intake does not really change at a health level, though since they will likely get bigger and stockier in build, they will eat more as a consequence. They do not feel any large increase or decrease in energy either. Their skin hardens a little, kinda toughening up like one might expect clay or softer stones to feel. They bleed less, inherently, than other people as a result, and are also harder to wound.

Geomancy at its core, is a discipline of magick not disimilar to that of skilled trades such as sculpture, stone-masonry, blacksmithing and others. Domhan demands an attention to detail, a calm discipline, a tradesperson's understanding and quality within its spell-work. We wield not emotion, nor adrenaline, nor mysticism. We wield concentration, focus, discipline, careful and practiced skill. We carve our spell-work out of the bedrock of reality itself, tapping into the power of soil, stone and minerals.

The source of any geomancer's power comes from the Topaz current of manna, Domhan. The manna of stone, soil, and earth. Domhan is oft described as a calm, immutable, and dedicated medium within the fields of magick. It requires patience, a skilled and well worked hand, and plentiful practice to work with this manna as a magister.

A geomancer's mastery of their connection can be manifest through a variety of spell-forms noted below;
