We apparently spent the day looking at newspapers. Then we went back to the hotel. We find Miles in a bathrobe at the hotel. We catch him up. So the plan is to go to the Royal Geographic Society.
We head to the Royal Geographic Society. Check out the books about this guy's trip. I find a historical record that says Wade Jerymn is locked in an insane asylum. Huntington Asylum for Lunatics. He went there after returning from the trip. We think this is interesting. -- think about checking out the asylum for the book.
We take the train to Huntington. It's a small town. Lots of older things. There is a lot of fog here. Kind of arrives as we arrive. We look for a place to stay - The George Hotel or the Knight's Head Inn (half the cost). We go to the Knight's Head hotel and there is an ape statue outside. It's really old. Kinda creepy. Bunch of old guys. There is an enormous mounted head of a Kudu (African antelope). We see a pic of Oliver Cromwell - Lord Protector of England. Ruth Hyde and Cuthbert are the owners of the place. Oliver Cromwell is Huntington's famous son. The Kudu was donated by Sir Robert Jerymn. -- perhaps Wade's grandson. Arthur was the last Jermyn to be alive - he set himself on fire. We get some food. Then plan to head to the asylum.
We get a coach to the asylum. Old looking building. 3 miles SW of town. Oliver Cromwell hangs in the foyer. Amanda is a little annoying about helping us. Miles gets her to let us in. We find two things - record from 1765 - when Wade was placed in an asylum. He talked a lot about white apes - which were repulsive and beautiful. Talks about a statue his wife brought back from the congo. The state was a little weird. 1852 - Sir Robert Jerymn was admitted after visiting African explorer Samuel Seaton. Died 1854 of apoplexy.
Lots of talk about who killed what when and how. We go over to the manner. The carriage rider is a little far for the driver right now. It's kinda late. The driver will bring us in the morning. We got back to the place to stay. We get someone in town who knows a former servant. In the bar. The house is haunted by a poltergeist. Causes accidents. Seemed interested in scaring wives and servants. Never Jerymn men. Jerymns had a morbid thing with the past. They left rooms locked. No one opened them. Some rooms have been locked for centuries. A room of interest is on the second floor.
