The Oracle

by Alanna Fanri

We met with the Oracle again and she spoke of many things, not all the things make sense just yet. It was odd though, at one point it seemed as if she was starting to become unhinged. The way Beckett responded to her to calm her down, I've never seen him act that way towards anyone. Usually he remains somewhat, I don't want to say uncaring, but perhaps distanced from everyone else at in the Whitestriders. It was odd to see him act like this to her......

She then showed me a vision that I had no recollection...
(below is the memory that I was shown)

Beckoned to the Oracle's sanctum, the white space encompassing the entire interior with the Oracle standing in the middle, the ground with several scattered pieces of porcelain. Her mask shifts, like a liquid wave as it moves to a younger looking mask with a bright expression.

"Do you remember the feeling of anticipation as you all began? The chosen few to seek salvation." Finishing her words, a smile distorts on her face and the room fills with the interior of a massive room, 10 figures standing around a large white diamond shapped gem, suspended in the center of a glass cylinder, each wearing a similar formal outfit of white, gold and red.

The Oracle stands next to you as you look around, the same outfit now adorning your own body as the voices speak amongst each other, "Friends, today we finally set out. Exploring beyond even the planewalkers we read as children. The greats going to meet the gods and converse with them. Time is not on our side, but our time is greater than all. Today, we go beyond the veil, no maps, no trail to follow. Today, we become legends, the ones that saved our world." With a round of applause from the others the figure walks over to another as he turns to a shorter figure next to them, less adorned in their outfit. "Hillan, onward."

The entire group watches as the shorter figures features become more clear, revealing a slightly younger Hillan as his smooth face with a large grin but obvious nervousness holds his hand against the glass containing the large gem, arcane runes spreading across it as it begins spinning. Faster and faster, as a bright light blinds the room.

As the light dies, the figures stand suspended in time as the Oracle walks around them, the adorned figure with his arm around a shorter blonde, a comforting gesture. The others bracing themselves in vairous notions of eagerness, and anxious fear.

The Oracle slowly walking around them, her hand rubbing the fabric on the arms as she passes. "And so it began. The fifty years that time broke."

As the space fades, a few standing in the space leaning and conversing amongst the gem, only three standing in the area as one speaks, "Do you think it is a good idea? Once we split it, we can't go back." The group nods in approval, but still obviously unsure of another course of action.

"I don't think Lorena can assist in it, but with her on our side, we might be able to convince the captain to consider another option."

The other corner figure speaks up, absentmindedly flipping a small trinket in their hand before a lizard steals it out of the air and he starts trying to get it back from it. With a strained groan, "Hey, it was only partially my idea this time. I think it will work. Trust me." The others smile as another throws an object across the room at him, causing the struggling figure fall off his lizard. "Oh come on, Wraith, think about it. We would be like gods. We might stand a chance this time, not to mention I don't think hope will be there if we are forced to run if it is like the last one."

One of the figures stands up and walks to the gem behind the glass, staring in, the face immediately recognizable as your own. "The next iteration, I vote we split it. At least it might be harder to track."*

The Oracle rested her hand on my shoulder, the room returning to pure white. "It called to each of you, I do not blame your decisions. Fifty years of flight and failure. Watching every built life die to the Devourer. It isn't too late."
