Challenges

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

When articles are submitted to any challenge, most recently SummerCamp, they are still able to be edited, even if this could potentially result in the article being disqualified.   The proposal is to implement a lock on all articles submitted to a challenge that stays in place from the moment the challenge ends and until the articles have been judged. The lock would prevent all edits from being performed, including changing categories from the "Articles & Categories" tab and deleting the article.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

It would prevent accidents from happening which in turn would reduce the amount of anxiety that has been on frequent display in the discord community:

What are other uses for this feature request?

Potentially this could be extended to allow users to lock articles from being edited or deleted unless unlocked with a password, lets say because they were proud of it or they just wanted to prevent accidents.

If this is going to be a lock that is resettable by the user, then it will be really helpful. If you don't care about prizes and stuff and want to edit your article, you just unlock it again.

What about just using the WIP toggle for that? Article is editable as long as it is WIP. The moment you unset WIP it gets "locked" in the way that if you try to edit it, it will ask you if you want to go to WIP to edit it...

I like the option to lock an article, I too struggled to not open the edit to grab CSS.

Yup. The general "lock article" would be a nice addition.

Sounds useful! Though instead of a complete lock, I would prefer the warning message that several others already suggested, including the option to edit the article anyway.

Love this and especially with the edition of toggling the lock. I mass edit sometimes and I've definitely been anxious about an unintentional/absent-minded mistaken click on one of the summer camp articles all week. Also had to let all my players know not to touch them, but they didn't necessarily know which articles were entries, and I also worried about accidentally clicking edit on one of my fiancee's articles.

Good idea, with the caveat that there should be a button or option to toggle the lock off for people that know what they're doing and why and want to do whatever.   As an added bonus for judging, pressing the button could automatically dis-enroll the article from the challenge.

I agree with Hanhula that a toggle option for this would be helpful. Or even a warning that appears at the top of an article, or an intermediate page or notification that reminds people 'This article was submitted for challenge. Are you sure you want to continue?'.

Locking the articles after the competition ends, sounds like a great idea. Preferrably only a soft-locking, though. Some people might not care too much about the competition and still want to work on and improve their article. It should still be possible, to unlock if you choose to do so. But otherwise ... Yes, please.

Yes, but the lock should go on from the moment the competition ends, not from the moment the submit button is pushed. This lock can have the shape of a pup-up message "are you sure you want to edit, this article is submitted for X" click yes and you can do what you want, or return and be thankfull for the reminder.

I dont like the idea of a article being locked automatically once they are submitted for a challeges. Some people make a place holder entry and then work on it later on when they have more time and locking them out and preventing them from finishing the article after they submitted so they would not forget too. I have to disapprove of this.

I think a general "lock article" feature (not just for competitions) would be pretty useful.

As long as this lock is user option I think this is great. I like some users do not write for the prizes. I write the Summer Camp articles for the players, for the world, to improve and for the badges. And enjoy continuing to refine my Summer Camp articles.

I would love for this, but I believe that when it was brought up in the past, it was said that there were more technical stuff than when locking the top ten articles of challenge tier entries.
