Xandu
Xandu is an aged wizard, a former professor of conjuration at the The Royal Observatory of Zahar, and a member of the party.
As an elf, Xandu was already elderly by human standards when she was hired by Chief Astronomer Zorban Nous to teach magic at Zahar's premiere arcane institution. During the peaceful and prosperous sultanate of Kumar XIV, Xandu's ability to practice conjuration without resorting to the use of illegal genie artifacts was highly valued.
After the sultan's murder and the victory of Rashad's forces in the Zahari Civil War, the Observatory was purged of all wizards or academics sympathetic to the old regime. Zorban was publically exectuted and replaced by the mad Goli Ghorbani. Those scholars unfortuate enough to retain their positions, like the half-genie transmuter Tariq ibn-Faraz, were compelled to research the infernal mysteries of Horak.
In the streets of outer Zahar, Xandu befriended the jannisary veteran Matthias, frequenting the Twisty Turban with him. Later they joined with Bohl and Chandra to prevent Rashad from obtaining Nephotep's Codex.
Unable to destory the cursed book by ordinary means, Xandu led the party into the Observatory to retrieve a scroll of disintegration capable of vaporizing it. This led to a skirmish which killed Goli and sent the party fleeing from the city. Among the Waziri Clan, Xandu joined with the old sultan's secret heir Saka. She assisted in the magical reconstruction of the ancient genie airship The Evening Breeze, which sailed across the Smoldering Divide and reached the fabled City of Brass.
