Kumar XIV

Kumar XIV was the previous Sultan of Zahar and the father of both Kumar and Rashad.

A Golden Age

Scion to a stable patrilineal dynasty, Kumar XIV ruled over Zahar and its vast territories for over three decades...a prosperous period often considered the height of modern Zahari civilization. His promotion of trade, scholarship, and religious tolerance shaped Zahar into the cosmopolitan city it is today. Humble despite his status, he was beloved by many of the Janissaries, chatting with the lowest ensigns like a friend.

His one hostility was towards the threat of genie incursion. Raised as he was on harrowing tales of the ancient conflicts between pharaonic Zahar and the City of Brass, his greatest fear was that genies might one day cross the Smoldering Divide and penetrate Zahar's walls. Kumar XIV strictly forbade communication with genies and the smuggling of genie artifacts, and was known to treat Zahar's small population of half-genies with cold suspicion.

A Family Tree Felled

Kumar XIV took great delight in his two sons, Kumar "XV" and Rashad, preparing them for lives of statecraft and bringing them along on his many visits to the surrounding territories. But before he could pass along the throne to his eldest son, both died in a single night...poisoned by the Cult of Horak.   Even five years into Rashad's reign, many Zaharis still cherish the murdered Kumar XIV as their true sultan...paladins like Matthias have never given up the possibility that his legacy may be rightfuly restored.
