the Fallen Gates Building / Landmark in Warhammer Fantasy, Scale Universe | World Anvil

the Fallen Gates

The Fallen Gates mark the spot where the Old Ones officially screwed up and accidentally ushered in the Great Cataclysm.   Surprisingly, perhaps ironically, the sites of the Fallen Gates are among the quietest and safest sites in Lustria now.   Covered by centuries of volcanic ash and generations of dead plant life, the ruins are now buried deep and the area above them looks identical to the rest of the Forest of Ash. It can only be located with very precise star charts that are known only to the Skinks and their Slann masters.   The site does not even register to most magical means of detection though a very powerful wizard who knew he or she was looking for might be able to find it given enough time.

History

The Fallen Gates represent the Old Ones greatest failure and the ruins mark the first spot where Daemons walked the mortal plane.   That said, once Daemons made landfall here, they didn't stay long. After killing all the servants of the Old Ones in sight, they quickly spread out to try to open more temporary portals to Chaos Realm to let more reinforcements in.   No one bothered to supernaturally taint the jungles, so the local ecosystem recovered.   After the Great Cataclysm, the Slann did not even try to repair the Fallen Gates figuring if the Old Ones couldn't do it right, they had no chance.   They steered their minions away from the site for a few centuries until the ruins were buried by layers of volcanic soil and generations of decayed plant life.   Once it became clear that the side bore no residual Chaos taint, they reversed the edict that Skinks and Sauri should not travel here and just treat the area like any other stretch of jungle.   The local Skinks are very aware of the history of this location but since the Slann say the location is no longer dangerous, they do not question it.   The area is regularly patrolled as is the rest of the Isthmus of Lustria.   Centuries later, the ruins are now buried even deeper. To reach the ruins, it would take skilled and patient excavators. It does not seem that any apart from the First know of the significance of this site. As of yet, no major evil power has made an attempt to access the buried ruins and no ignorant treasure hunter has managed to stumble on to them.
