Tlanxla, the City of the Sky

Tlanxla is a ruined temple city that is still occupied by a small permanent garrison of Lizardmen.   Tlanxla sits at the basin of several rivers and wetlands areas. The area is teeming with fish and these fish attract a great many hungry Terradons who commonly nest in the surrounding area.   Since the region is by far has the densest Terradon population in all of Lustria. Even though the Temple City is in ruins, many Terradon riders travel her for new steeds, or to add some genetic diversity to the breeding pool of their local Terradons.   Terradon riders from across Lustria also fly here to chat with their peers and talk with other Skinks "who get them".

History

The Temple City of Tlanxla was named in honor of the Old One Tlanxla.   Tlanxa was destroyed by Daemons during the Great Cataclysm but it was not irreparably tainted.   While there was no major rebuilding effort, but a few Slann and a small garison was set up to watch over the Spawning pool and serve as a spiritual and practical center for Lustria's Terradon riders.   During the Time of the Rat and Serpent, Tlanxa became a strategically important base that helped coordinate military efforts against Clan Pestilens. The population of Tlanxa swelled as a result of this, but most of the new denizens left after the coming of Sotek ended the great war, once again leaving only a small garison to watch the spawning pools and shepherd the Terradons.

Tourism

Tlanxla is generally considered one of the lesser Old Ones, but Tlanxla is of course greatly venerated in the Temple City bearing his name.   Every year, the city celebrates Tlanla the Old One with the Festival of Tlanxla.   The celebration last days and includes a lot of ceremonial flying. Terradon riders are a showy, competitive bunch and they love to show off.   Most Terradon riders in Lustria make it a point to participate in the festivals at least one year in five.   This event brings a lot of visitors and religious pilgrims. Ostensibly they are there to venerate the Old One Tlanxla, but in reality, they want to see what is for all intents and purposes, an exciting air show.   A desire to see the Festival of Tlanxla was the plot driver for my short story Excitement, 1,292 words.

Transitioning from "official" lore to my lore.

The City of the Sky was one of many Temple Cities GW published on the Lustrian map but didn't develop in detail.   I doubt the GW put much thought into Tlanxla and I always wondered why "The City of the Sky" was so far far from the mountains and near a bunch of swamps that are by definition below sea level.   But I did some reading on real world ptetrodons. They actually nested on the ground, not in high places like modern birds. And of course real terradactyls ate primarily fish.   So I thought, why not make this a major hub for Terradons?
