Mosquito Swamps

"You mean every swamp in Lustria isn't a 'Mosquito Swamp'?"   -Brandt, freelance treasure hunter from the Empire
The Mosquito swamp region may or may or not have most mosquitos per square mile in all of Lustria of all swamplands in Lustria but it certainly has more mosquitos than most.   The areas is somewhat famous with Lizardmen for its unique ancient history and their proximity to the Well of Time, but most Lizardmen don't give this region a second thought.

Localized Phenomena

The only thing that really attracts Lizardmen to the area is the proximity to the Well of Time. Once in a great while, a Slann will journey here with an entourage to mediate on the future there.   By standing order and traditions, no Skink or Saurus has tried to peer into it. Every non-Lizardmen that has looked into the Well thus far as gone mad.   As of yet, no powerful wizard other than a Slann has attempted to use the Well of Time. If any non-Lizardmen are aware of the Well of Time's existance, those in know don't seem to be interested in going there.

Climate

Hot and wet like most of the rest of Lustria.

Fauna & Flora

Not that different from the rest of Lustria's large swamps. Mosquitos and smaller insects feed larger insects which in turn feed small lizards, fish, and frogs which in turn feed larger predators.   Relatively speaking, the Mosquito Swamps have fewer larger predators making this relatively safe for Skinks and other Lizardmen, not that they have much reason to visit the swamp.

Natural Resources

Knowledgeable Skinks can forage for food and herbs here, but there are better areas in Lustria with richer bio resources.

History

The "Mosquito Swamps" actually got their name from Elves, not Lizardmen. Due to geographic factors and a bit of dumb luck, the mosquito swamps mark the very first place a warm blooded expedition penetrated deep into Lustria, at least in my head cannon based on the very short vignette in the fifth edition army book.   In this case the invaders were High Elves. At this point in their history, all Elves were High Elves and the Dark Elves and Wood Elves had not truly culturally separated from Ulthuan yet.   The expedition was exploratory and was not necessarily out for treasure specfically (though they did some looting when they accidentally came across a bit of treasure). The jungle hazards whittled the group down and the last survivors looked into the Well of Time and went mad prompting the Slann in charge of the area to order his minions to spare the last elf, as he had "witnessed the doom of his race."

Tourism

Apart from when a Slann wants to visit the Well of Time, the Lizardmen have little reason to go here, though have tried to trick parties of invaders to entering the region and getting figuratively and literally bogged down here. Once softened up by the mosquitos and other natural hazards, most warmbloods are easy pickings.
