Jörmungandr

(a.k.a. Smile, Hecatoncheir)

One of the most malevolent and terrifying of villains ever created by the Villain Academy, Jörmungandr has carved himself a terrifying reputation during the First Villain War. One that would be much worse if not for Destro's repeated refusal to agree to his deployment due to the civilian casualties that the villain in question tended to create.   Jörmungandr vanished following the death of Archvile, suspected by many to have been killed by someone on the side of the collapsing People's Liberation Front. This is wrong, as Jörmungandr is today known as Smile, the Top Hero of the state of Oregon.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

As Smile, the Top Hero of Oregon, he is using his natural body - that of a relatively frail and slightly childish looking man who with proper clothes could easily be mistook for a girl. As Jörmungandr he typically conceals his identity under his individuality, making him appear as rather voluptuous female, her entire body shaped from materialized darkness, wearing clothes vaguely reminiscing of oriental dancers made from darkness of slightly lighter shade.

Special abilities

His individuality is called Darkness. It allows him to create, control and physically materialize darkness and shadows. He is capable of creating a vast amount of things at once. Examples include his identity concealing reshapement of his own body that he uses to keep Jörmungandr's identity separated from that of Smile, a variety of weapons and arms to control them or grab his enemies (or tear them to shreds).   He can also use it as a grappling hook, to create wings allowing him to fly (or simply levitate himself over a platform made from darkness), or to suppress light in the vicinity, allowing him to conceal his movements. Another usage is covering himself in that ability, in order to reinforce his own body.   When he goes all out (and it's sufficiently dark around him, since he can do that in full light) he can turn himself into a massive, up to a hundred meters long, nightmarous serpent made of his materialized darkness, that he can control with his inviduality to the point of allowing it to fly. He can still alter its form enough to make entire segments of its skin erupt with hundreds of hands in order to restrain the opponent that attempted to land on him). For obvious reason he is only doing that as Jörmungandr.   His constructs as Smile tend to be rather simple in design, while those done as Jörmungandr tend to be much more intricate and morbid, including common skull motiff.

Apparel & Accessories

As Smile he is wearing a colourful superhero-themed spandex outfit with a cape, with a symbol of the state of Oregon over the cape and a face mask shaped after the smiling emoji.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

No one but Archvile and Jörmungandr himself know how did the villain started. Some say that he was Archvile's younger brother or an orphan that he picked up due to seeing himself in their eyes. What is known is that both of them share their utter disregard for human dignity and the desire to see the world suffer for no other reason than their own enjoyment.   Archvile used Jörmungandr as his strongest pawn, to the point of the villain battling Invincible more than once in Archvile's stead.   When the First Villain War started, Jörmungandr became a menace - for short period of time. He succeded in dealing massive ammount of casualties to the Government's side during several engagements before the People's Liberation Front practically shelved him due to the ammount of collateral damage he dealt.   It was during that time that he fought against Valiant, the hero only narrowly surviving the battle.   Jörmungandr wasn't present on the scene when Archvile was cornered by Invincible for unknown reasons. The truth is that Judgment used a variant of targeted teleportation individuality to send him away from his master's side, in order to make sure that Archvile wasn't going to escape. It happened moments before the attacking heroes succeded in placing a teleportation lockdown over the entire facility.   Jörmungandr then vanished, deciding that there is no use sticking to the lost cause. He used some of his old contacts to forge an identity for himself and soon after that emerged as a powerful new superhero known as Smile, quickly raising in the ranks until he became the Top Hero of the state of Oregon (following a tragic 'accident' to the former holder of that title).   A big part of Smile's raise to fame was his perception as a hero with 'villainous' individuality, Jörmungandr using that fact to propel himself into popularity together with organizing a support network for people persecuted for supposedly villainous individualities (that he is using to locate promising individuals that he can drive into actual villainy, in a scheme not unlike what the Villain Academy was about.

Intellectual Characteristics

Jörmungandr is highly intelligent and a solid mastermind material if only thanks to observing Archvile's handiwork for years as his de facto bodyguard and assistant. He is also extremely well trained in using his individuality to its most logical extreme, resulting in a vast variety of combat techniques and the knowledge of how to apply them best while in combat.

Morality & Philosophy

Jörmungandr is a monster, who enjoy making humans suffer and the world burn. It's unknown if he is simply a high-functioning psychopath/sociopath (whose individuality allowed them to indulge in their negative behaviour to an extreme) or if he's simply that evil by nature and upbringing. He is entirely remorseless, manipulative and sadistic, to a degree enjoying commiting evil acts simply because they are evil.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Strengths
Nigh undefeatable when he goes all out, aside from a handful of most powerful heroes (like Invincible, who still tied with him) or those who are a bad match-up for him individuality wise (Virtue if they ever fought each other). Basically undefeatable at night.
 
Weaknesses
Vulnerable to powerful light sources. If lacking in those, ambushing him and killing him before he realizes he is under attack might be the only way of slaying him aside from dropping a nuke on his current position.
