Jaervor

Jaervor is a former province of the Barradin Empire, located in the Northern Highlands. It was considered a fringe province, during the Empire, and many say that Stormkeep is the last true bastion of civilisation before one enters the The wild, untamed North . Its current capital is Rannalla.

Division of Power

There is no true central power in the province currently. In recent years, a mage called The Duke of the Pale took the power in Rannalla from the Empire with an army consisting of Northmen and hired mercenaries. As a result, he has been in control of the largest and most wealthy city in the area, with the Empire mostly powerless to react. On the other hand, The Empire still holds control over Stormkeep and holds a modest presence in the area. As a result, there is still a small Inquisition presence in the area as well.
In the past months, the local populace has been increasingly discontent with the rule of the Duke, as he increased taxes and took power from many of the guilds and notable people in the area. As a result, the locals have formed a united front in the form of the Bluecloaks. This group tries to waylay the ambitions of the Duke by manner of sabotage and subterfuge, and consists mostly of peasants and local commoners.

Religion

Previously, when the region was an Imperial province, the most influential religion was the Cantraian Church, though since the Empire has lost much of its influence in the region, many of the people have returned to their original pagan beliefs in the form of the The Old Gods.

Geography

Jaervor is located on what was the northern edge of the Barradin Empire, in the Highlands. Thus the climate could be considered temperate at best and freezing at worst. The landscape is dominated by two large lakes, Lake Gerstad and Lake Urthgelnif. From these lakes, which derive their water from the glaciers in the north, multiple rivers flow southward.
To the north of Jaervor lies only the The Wild North, which is a large untamed and mostly unsettled swathe of land.
