The Sanctuary

A lone tower of stone, somewhat worn by time stands alone in the center of the desert, surrounded by salted earth. It is according to legend that the chain of events that lead to The Sunder began within its pale walls. Now abandoned, the only known thing that lives, either within or near, is the Ascendant; The Immortal

Geography

The Sanctuary
MapTheSanctuary by Taylor Forand
The Sanctuary, as it is know, is a seven story tall tower made entirely of pale limestone. Its exact age is unknown, but there are old records that showed it existed far before the Planar War and the Sunder.   It sits in the exact center of the Blacklands, surrounded on all sides by a radius of salted earth, extending roughly a mile out from the tower in all directions.

Fauna & Flora

Nothing grows in the area around the Sanctuary. All trees that had grown in ages past are either rotted away or are petrified stumps. No bushes or grass is known to grow in the area either, due to the salted earth which prevents all life from taking hold.   According to old superstition, those who wish to travel across The Blacklands and leave a sack of salt at the edge of white crusted earth are blessed with protection in their travels.

Natural Resources

The moment I entered into the two mile wide radius of the Sanctuary, the earth crunched beneath my feet. A closer inspection reveals salt clinging to the bottom of my boots. 'If it wasn't for the danger of running into The Immortal, one might make a hefty sum of gold gathering and selling it at Amoth,' I thought, but quickly discarded the idea. Would probably cost to much to rent and guard the carts anyway. ~ Farah Herahm, Amoth Explorers Guild
Like most of The Blacklands, the area surrounding the Sanctuary is a barren wasteland. The rolling hills nearby contain some still fertile mines of iron ore, but the Orcish clans in The Blacklands keep prospecting miners largely at bay, when they aren't mining them out themselves.
