The Dichotist religion is strongly integrated into political structure, with clergy holding many positions of power.   Cultures: Bethan majority, Draconid and Vesinian minority.   Official Religion: Dichotism   Population: 450,000   History: The Arbethian Kingdom, commonly called Arbethia, was once the largest and most powerful nation in the world. Its roots were born early in the 4th Epoch when King Devinya declared himself King of all Bethans in year 20 4E, and set out to unite the greatly fractured Bethan peoples in the wake of the 3rd Epoch. The conquest would stall, reignite, and stall again over the course of generations, gaining more territory each time. In 116 4E, the King Elivar Arinos II declared Dichotism the official religion of Arbethia, and fully incorporated the religion into political and societal life. That same year, Elivar Arinos II declared the 1st Crusade, conquering the Dragonshead Peninsula and bringing Dichotism to the region. His predecessor, Queen Senarya, declared the 2nd Crusade in 132 4E, conquering most of the Vesinian Empire. A generation later, Elivar Arinos III (true to his namesake) declared the 3rd Crusade in 211 4E, in an attempt to completely conquer the Vesinian Empire. They succeeded in conquering what is now Epsia, but settled for peace after a year of bitter warfare.   This was followed by generations of relative peace, albeit plagued by small rebellions from the Draconid and Vesinians they had conquered. The political landscape had shifted, and there was pressure from other world powers that prevented any further expansions. Nonetheless, Arbethia aided their allies often in wars. Most of these wars were fought in foreign lands to aid other countries in establishing Dichotism as the ruling religion, or to fight against the heretical uprisings of Singulism. A war, mockingly called the 4th Crusade, was waged against the Inniash Khaganate upon the northern border of the Kingdom in 487 4E, which ended within months in disastrous defeat after disastrous defeat for Arbethia.   The Arbethians lead the world in power and politics until the Naiathel Empire invaded in 32 5E, devastating the country with a summoned Tsunami that vanguarded their invasion. Despite the Arbethians immense power, the complete surprise of the Naiathel attack lead to a scattered, disorganized defense. Once organized fighting began in earnest, the 22 Years War had begun. After much bloodshed, a tenuous truce was reached. This truce was broken, remade, and broken many times over in an enduring cycle. The ancient royal bloodline of the first King has since passed on, buried after several abdications over the course of time.   After the Miracle of 69 5E, Arbethia fell into uneasy peace. Then in 71 5E, the Naiathel Withdrawal began. Arbethia regained many of its former lands, though many others were reclaimed by Duuleijir and the Tensun Trading Company. The peace brought by the Miracle lasted for a time in spite of this, but over the course of generations a desire to reclaim lost lands has returned to the nation. Arbethia fears to contend with the economic power of the Tensun Trading Company, and primarily wages war with Duuleijir.
