History: The Naiathel remain a mysterious force. Ancient scrolls indicate the Naiathel to have first been seen consorting with Sorcerers from the 2nd Epoch, though the Logicmasters debate that these scrolls may be referring to aquatic dragons in their humanoid forms instead. The first agreed upon instance of their appearing is found in an accounting of events from 347 4E, in which a Vesinian sailor describes a series of encounters with peoples that match the Naiathel description precisely. His records described them as imperious, commanding, ruthless, yet fair. The assessment stands true to the day. The Naiathel had long been part of folklore and sailors tales, usually referred to as Merfolk, Deeplings, or Sealings. Their discipline is nearly flawless, with a societal emphasis on strength, clarity, focus, and duty. Their whole society has a very militaristic hierarchy, with military leaders often taking on political or societal responsibilities as well.
They entered the world stage in 32 5E when the invaded Arbethia upon the Ceshunai Tsunami. After 22 years of fighting against the Arbethians, a truce was reached. This truce has since been broken, remade, and broken many times over in an enduring cycle. Since their invasion, their primary focus has been on suppressing rebellions, and solidifying their place in world politics. Though they have been aggressive, even brutally ruthless in securing their own lands, they haven't attempted to expand their territory since the 22 Year War.
They rule as overlords, allowing their vassal states to govern themselves and rule themselves, but demanding taxes and unquestioning subservience. Provincial rulers are assigned to monitor states within their provinces, and can request aid from the Emperor when forces are needed to suppress a rebellion, or ensure a demand is met. Vassals that are loyal to the Naiathel live normal lives. Vassals that are resistant face horrible punishment, and mass executions.
